Parents of the HS Class of 2018 (Part 1)

Also if you use an Amazon credit card you can get 5% back;-)

S took off 6pm BST!

Roll on 10th October!!

D18 and DW are just about done with the shopping festival. D18 has a manageable stack of stuff to take with her. It’ll be interesting to see what “sticks” and what she didn’t need. I imagine that Amazon will be our friend!

It’s going to be a whirlwind month and a half. We’re going on a vacation to Asia for a couple weeks (first timers) and we return two days before move-in day. A week later I go for a business conference for almost a week. Then we’re planning on going to Orlando for the first Bama game. After that I’ll be in a coffin and very relaxed!

Tomorrow is S’s final day of EMT training. He has to take the National Registry exam and then he’s done.

He finally got off the waitlist for a lab section he’d been wanting, so he’s pleased about that. His previous schedule had four classes, including a lab, back to back on one day with no more than 10 minutes between each. Now he has a reasonable schedule with adequate meal breaks and no more than three classes on any one day.

We leave on Monday, Aug. 13 to take him to move-in, and he’s bringing his best friend along so the friend can tour the campus.

I am definitely in denial about how little time is left!

Congratulations @DiotimaDM for your son almost being finished with his EMT requirements. That will be a big accomplishment!

Big day here. I paid D’s tuition for the first semester (!!) and she also got her schedule. We can already see that two changes need to be made: she’s in the wrong Chem class and the wrong Calc class. Either way, it’s going to be a rough schedule. Likely 18 hours. Yikes!

2 weeks til move in for S. I feel such a flood of different emotions already. Anyone else having a hard time?

@S18D20mom I struggled a bit this week with DD at Fish Camp…normally I have no issue when they go away for a week for camp. But I had a hard time not wanting to be in contact with her. I managed to keep it to 4 sentences over the four days. But In will cop to watching a twitter feed of the Yell Off hoping to spot her, unfortunately the video quality was sorta poor and I could not recognize faces. Gig 'Em!

@S18D20mom Anything about D18 going away to college sends me into making salt. It’s completely ridiculous.

However, yesterday, a woman with a young adult Autistic son, who will likely always live at home said, “What I would give to be an empty nester for even a few months.” I wept. Why? Perhaps I saw life through her tired eyes and at the same time realized that I’m likely only a few years away of being an empty nester. I had never looked at an empty nest as being the blessing that it really is. Tonight I’m grateful for being half way to being an empty nester. God bless us all.

@Meddy Hear, hear!!!

I’m feeling a few pangs. Mostly I stay busy, and I’m excited for S to have such a wonderful opportunity. When I stop to think about, though… wah!

I know what you mean.

I can’t wait for her… but my home will be so much quieter without all the life and energy she brings to it.

My younger daughter will probably feel it the most-- they’ve been roommates for her whole life!

Starting to feel anxious, sad and happy .We will be moving our son into his dorm on Aug 15.

Man, allergies today.

Yeah, having a bit of a tough time today. I mean, not horrible, but I’m checking lists, making other lists, packing the non-clothing stuff and getting misty-eyed over any/every little thing today.

The original plan was to drive Monday, move S in on Tuesday and drive home on Weds. But now S’s best friend is coming along to tour UNM while we’re there, so now the plan is still to drive on Monday, but we’re trying to get there enough before 8 pm that we can chuck the two boys into the dorm room instead of all crowding into one hotel room.

The boys will hang out together / tour on Tuesday, then we’ll all meet up for dinner Tuesday night and drive back home (taking the friend with us) on Weds.

@S18D20mom yes! I am having a terrible time. D18 helped her buddies move in to their place 3 hrs away on Sunday. It was hard to see her go even though it was just an overnight.

I’m not ready to send her off next Tuesday. We will be putting her on a plane to her sister. My oldest and her DH will be the ones to move her in. She’s glad and has already told me I can’t take her to the airport if I cry! Lol

@meddy-excellent perspective and I’m trying very hard to remember that this is a good thing. Overall very excited for her.

Hugs to all the CC moms and dads. It is indeed an exciting time, just very hard to let our little birds fly. I have teared up in front of S18 when we were talking about things recently and he said “It’s ok mom, I’m not dying…just pretend I’m at a very long camp”. It’s true that we are all the lucky ones to be sending our kids to college. Best of luck to everyone!

I’m in denial and I’m sticking with it.

11 days to go here and starting to feel some pangs…

@S18D20mom Thought you might be interested in this as your S is heading that way! https://www.theguardian.com/world/2018/aug/07/texas-student-makenzie-noland-alligator-photo-viral

S already gone - in blazing Portugal at the moment with no mobile connection so hoping he hasn’t already melted!! Two big boxes and guitar get picked up on Thursday and it is only now hitting home as all his stuff will be gone! Move in day 10 days time - A level results to get first - fingers crossed!

15 days here. He’s currently fighting a head cold.
