@ashmomhk a lot of colleges ask you to fill out the FAFSA so that they can match you with institutional funds, and so that they have your information on file in case your financial situation changes to the extent that you do qualify for grants.
@EENYMum she would be an Italian major. She wants to be a linguist, but they donât offer linguistics (all of her top choices did but none of her safeties), so she would just try for linguistics again in grad school. In any case, she wants to study abroad often, so theyâre winning on that front, especially with free tuition due to her scholarship. That really leaped them over some schools on her list! What will yours study?
@ashmomhk filing, or not filing FAFSA has no bearing on admissions if a school is need blind. If they are not need blind then it can be a positive thing as they assume you are ok being full pay.
I donât know though, if not a citizen if you can take a Federal loan. Iâd look into that.
Subsidized loans, if offered, are yearly and itâs actually a total dollar amount more than a yearâŠI think it can stretch till about 4.5. Itâs a different amount each year and only offered for that year. The amount offered as subsidized is up to the college, it may be all or none of the potential amount.
5500 Freshman year (3500 may be subsidized)
6500 Sophomore year (4500 may be subsidized)
7500 (6000 may be subsidized)
If you do not take loan freshman year, you canât take that loan sophomore year, that opportunity is just gone so there isnât really anything to âsaveâ to the end.
@Temperantia congratulations! Iâm sure your house is as excited as mine!

How do Trader Joeâs, Whole Foods, PCC, Thriftway Markets etc stack up vs. Wegmans?
Also congrats on RIT!
@JBSeattle Iâd pit PCC, Central Market (Shoreline) and Metropolitan Market against Wegmans any day. Really excellent fresh items and grab and go.
Depends on the Thriftway, as I can only speak to my local one but itâs easily up there as well. It doesnât have the food court ish aspect the others do though. I shop there more than the others.
Iâm kinda over Whole Foods (and think PCC and MM are better, as well as my Thriftway) and TJâs doesnât have the level of fresh items so itâs just different (but probably slays them all with killer frozen items and proprietary sauces and such).
The main difference outside of groceries is that they do have a lot of non grocery items. Kind of like Fred MeyerâŠbefore the recent remodel lol.
So itâs kind of like Super Target or Fred Meyer meets PCC/Metopolitan Market in one place.
And thanks on RIT!!!
@eandesmom WOOOOTTTTT!!! Congrats on ED at RIT. That is such great news.
AndâŠHere it is! The first results post.
If you would like to contribute, PM me and I will send instructuions. I am unable to manage entry via PM or email, but will provide the link to add your information which is pretty self explanatory, then I will merge into this format. I apologize in advance for any errors or admissions. Please note (as of today) if a new entry or status update if you add data to the document, Iâve added a spot for that. That will really help! It will likely be monthly updates, so sometime mid/end of Dec for the next one. Thanks to all who have contributed so far.

WOW! That list is great - thank you so much for doing it. I donât even know how to âPMâ
Thanks @eandesmom ! Congrats to all so far. These results are great and will be so helpful to future readers!
My S19 came home and asked me this question and I wasnât sure what the answer was. It probably has been covered already somewhere on this board, but I couldnât find it. If he gets deferred from his EA school, and the school offers ED2, can he switch his application type from EA to ED2? Or is that only the case if you havenât already been deferred? He has been so good about blocking out all of the ânoiseâ at the lunch table, but nerves and energy are high for these kids and he is starting to really freak outâŠ
Typically if you are deferred the school auto puts you into their RD pile. ED in general is a better odds game than EA but I donât know that a college would allow a move from deferred to RD, to ED2, Iâd think youâd have to ask the school.
If your student really really is comitted to the school it might be better to move to ED2 from EA now if you think that will improve their chances, before you get the result. Often you can.
Thanks @eandesmom - thatâs what my thoughts are too. He was on the fence for so long about applying ED or not and since he was so uncertain, he chose EA. I suggested he write to the AO and make the change to ED2 now, but he is still reluctant. I think the lunch table âexpertsâ are getting to himâŠdeep down I thought he should have initially applied ED, but he really was torn and ultimately it was his decision. I told him to just stay the course - what will be, will be. Just stressful all the way around - lot of second guessing.
Itâs hard and lots of second guessing to be sure. If he isnât sure then he shouldnât do it. PM means Private Message⊠To private message someone just click on their user name and info will pop up about that user. Under their name you should see 2 orange boxes, one says message and one says edit profile. Click on âmessageâ and you can send an internal to CC only email (basically) to that person.
To view messages click on the mail icon at the top of the CC pages, any page. If you have a new message it should show a notification number.
Yeah, my daughter just called me and she was accepted at Western Washington University! This was her first acceptance!
@eandesmom
Tried what you said but did not see the message/edit that you mentioned. Could I just write my daughterâs colleges and stats here?
Figured it out, you need to click on envelope on main screen (am using phone).
