He has applied to 6/7 CSUs and all UCs (even though his chances are very low for UCs) We are in California so in state for CSUs
@Kassie73
I am a little surprised by the Oregon deferral but not the other 2. It may be a blessing in the end as the California public schools are going to be much more affordable. Your son may have a shot at UCR or Merced and will probably get into a good chunk of CSU’s. My D got into SDSU but at $40K a year it is at the top of our budget so she is unlikely to attend. If it was the in state rate then there is a possibility she might have decided to attend.
My husband spoke with Furman’s financial office today to see if we could renegotiate the merit money (which was 0) and basically got nowhere. The woman explained that the admissions office takes all the kids in the ED pool and recalculates their GPA’s according to the schools criteria. That means all classes, other than those in the core curriculum, are removed so my son’s GPA went from a 3.3 to a 3.13 (ouch). The average GPA for the ED pool was 3.7, which she said was very strong this year. Even though he received lots of scholarship money elsewhere, we weren’t able to get anything from Furman so let that be a lesson for those in the future with a GPA between 3.0 and 3.4. Oh well, at least we tried.
Congratulations to all! We have heard from Eckerd, Knox, Clark–all acceptances with merit. Accepted to UW-LaCrosse, which is in-state and outstandingly priced. Still waiting on a few but good options thus far.
S got accepted to Marist today even though he pulled the application. ?
@megan12 that’s hilarious!
Clark and Lewis & Clark acceptances came in today - Goddard scholarsip and Pioneer scholarship, respectively. Clark, in particular, sent a lovely, personal note with acceptance. Gave mama the warm fuzzies. Happy house tonight! She is 5/5 with two more EAs to go by January 31. Then we wait for the RDs.
My D was deferred from Point Loma today via snail mail. She was upset as the admissions counselor said she would likely get a scholarship. The funny thing is that two weeks ago she said she was not interested as the school has more of a religious bent then she initially thought.
Point Loma is extremely religious.
D19 was deferred from Elon last night. Letter said they received over 7,500 EA applications. Also asked for first semester grades.
@DCNatFan will she be sending her grades or just letting it go?
S19 was accepted to Rutgers (School of Arts and Sciences) and has to wait to audition for their arts school. His reaction was. “Oh. Where is that again?” Obviously, he’ll be seeing the campus for the first time when he auditions!
@carolinamom2boys She will send the grades as they are pretty good this semester, although our semester does not end until 1/25. She was disappointed but not crushed. The only downside is that RD is not until 3/20.
@megan12 Is the GPA discrepancy and lack of expected scholarship enough to get out of your ED situation? Did Marist offer merit?
Love the growing list of acceptances! Congrats all!
@Turquoise52 , ah…Clark is the school that my DS refused to look at or apply to even though I think it sounds fantastic (and he’s planning a Psych major). A personal note!
@Acersaccharum Probably, but he still plans on going. It really fit him the best. Marist offered $5,000/yr.
@TS0104 -my daughter plans to major in psych as well. We did a tour over the summer and she had lunch with a current student while I hung out at an awesome coffee shop with an Emily Dickinson quote scrawled on the wall. We both really loved it. She’s one of those kids who really liked nearly every campus we visited though - it’s going to be an interesting Spring! A lucky problem for her - choosing among several schools she’d be happy to attend.
D19 was deferred at UMich yesterday. She’s pretty happy about not getting denied. But honestly, I don’t think they deny anyone in the EA round. That’s what they’re saying on the UMich forum anyway, though you would think there’d be some EA applicants that would just be so clearly not a fit that they’d deny them.
Waiting for Tulane decision later today. Also a reach school. Then we wait until January for any Match or Safety school decisions.
@momzilla2D Good luck to your D on Tulane.
Based on my experience on this forum going back to when D16 was applying, Tulane is one of those “show me some love” schools. Hope she gave Tulane some attention and that should help.
Congratulations @eh1234 ! And happy touring!
