Parents of the HS Class of 2019 - 3.0 to 3.4 GPA

S19 got into Loyola Maryland yesterday with a merit scholarship. This was the last decision to come in. And while he’s not attending, Mr. InfiniteWaves and I are having a brief moment of pride as we are both alums. The personalized acceptance video made me a bit misty.

Hey, we’ll have another chance with S21. :wink:

@ChicagoSportsFn
I’m not sure we’re any good at the “show me some love” thing. We’re pretty introverted, so tend to not do a lot of reaching out. We’re also in the Boston area, and didn’t get down to NO to visit. D19 did go to the info session with the regional rep at her school, and possibly stopped in at a college fair in this area. She did do the optional “Why Tulane?” essay, though, and I think she did a good job with that. Guess we’ll know soon enough.

@JBSeattle sorry to hear about Point Loma, I know nothing about the school but that still isn’t fun. I did have a question though, I though San Diego State results came out in March when all the Cal State and UC’s do but see some OOS kids get early results, obviously your D was one of them which hopefully helps with the sting even if it isn’t in the budget. Was that still by applying RD? Just curious.

Somewhat off-topic for the thread, but related to this: I’m a college professor, and when I was looking to change universities in 2003, I had of course sent out a bunch of applications and so on, but after it all wound down, I got a rejection letter from a college I never even applied to.

I mean, linguistics is a small field and word spreads fast, so a bunch of people knew I was on the market, but that seemed weird, to say the least.

The (topical!) moral of the story: Colleges are kind of messed up, administratively.

@dfbdfb LOL! So funny! ?

Infinitewaves where is your son attending? D19 got into loyola too but is leaning towards xavier, dayton, indiana, miami of ohio or Delaware. I have no idea what order she has them ranked in! Still waiting on UNH and URI. Has already gotten into but turned down merrimack, st josephs and umass lowell.
Any other kids still have ao many under consideration?

@Massmom10 He is heading to Penn State main campus (we are PA residents). After spending his entire life in small, Catholic schools, he decided to go big. :slight_smile:

Sounds like your D has some great “go big” options too!

@eandesmom
You can only apply to Cal States via regular admission. I think the early admits at SDSU were only for high stat kids and out of state (Kaching $40k per year on the later).

@dfbdfb that is too funny! My daughter is planning to study linguistics!

A little update on D’s pain:

I applied some CBD ointment to her back and she reports that her pain is down to a six from her normal 8!

A step in the right direction and I’m hoping it eventually goes away. The joy I felt when she told me that. All I want for her is some relief and it seems it’s finally happening.

They say good things come in 3s and this definitely qualifies! She was accepted to SUNY Albany, received her OOS tuition waiver to GSU and is experiening some relief of her back pain. All in a 24 hours.

Thank you ALL for your well wishes, comfort, messages and prayers!

@cinn124
Glad to hear your good news!!

@cinn124 this is wonderful. Can she have some CBD gummies too or muscle relaxers?

@TwinMom2023 I would probably have to hunt down the CBD gummies since CBD products are not available here yet.

@TwinMom2023 great news all around, I hope that pain number keeps doing DOWN!

@cinn124
Not sure where you are, but hemp-based CBD is more widely available. I found it in an organic market near me (in MA, but before legal pot shops opened). In some states, I’ve heard it’s available OTC in drugstores.

eta: so glad to hear that your d’s pain has improved

@momzilla2D thank you! We’re in NY so CBD products are not available here yet. We’re actually heading to Boston for a wedding next week so I’ll see if I can pick some up while I’m there.

Anxious day in our house this morning. December ACT score still did not post and awaiting Seattle University EA decision.

In other news, my May 18 College Grad accepted a job in Seattle and is scrambling to move across country next week and find a place to live.

@Longhaul That is a lot of stuff. Sending positive and calm thoughts your way. ACT, EA Accaptance, and move to Seattle. Big day…keep us posted.

My D19 was accepted to Penn State UP (we were shocked!), Elon,Towson and WVU. She was REALLY happy about them all and we are looking hard at the money now. PSU is her #1 but I just don’t know financially if that will work unless we find some local scholarships to offset some of the costs.

@InfiniteWaves - we may have crossed paths on the PSU thread! So happy for you!

Congrats @Cotton2017 ! Your D has great options all the way around. :slight_smile:

Ah, us with the lopsided SAT score kids. Typical communications and English majors. LOL! I was one of those myself. Yes, we do get into college (PSU UP even!). And go on to have successful careers even with our math challenges. :wink:
