Are you OOS? Alabama has one of the best merit scholarship programs for OOS. Comgrats to your DS.
My DD19 applied there as well and we’re OOS.

@ChicagoSportsFn yes! He currently qualifies for the Presidential Elite but he is a NMSF so keeping fingers crossed that he achieves finalist status and gets that package. S19 loved the campus and the college of engineering.
What does your DD want to study?
@eb23282 thats great news!
@jellybean5 S19 SAT score from 8/11 still hasnt shown up grrrrr
@cakeisgreat that is ridiculous. I was going to just re-order the score from College Board and then file a dispute w/ the CC company, but the score finally showed up on the list of scores ordered. I just felt that the scores ordered on that day during a time period at least, fell through a crack and wound up in limbo.
It sent to ASU a week later, but it still hasn’t shown up as received and in the portal at ASU. But that score was only sent to ASU on 9/11/18, so I’ll give it a few more days.
Regarding S19’s meeting with the admissions officer this week, wondering if an e-mail thank you is sufficient or should he do a handwritten thank you?
@eb23282 So excited. That’s fabulous.
All this nonsense with SAT scores not sending is making me glad that my son’s better score is his ACT. (He will still need to deal with college board for the schools that require/accept subject tests, however)
Acceptances!! I love it. Congrats to all . My D19, on the other hand, has not written a word of her common app essay, although she keeps saying she has “started to fill out” the rest. She had such a busy summer with her sport, research project, part time job, and super important outings with her friends
.
We knew it was going to get harder to find the time once school started, plus she got a part in the fall show and is directing in a theater festival. She’s also finishing her two year long community service project and helping me and her sister raise a puppy for Canine Companions . . . Did I mention she says she wants to apply ED?
When I try to talk to her about it, she insists she can handle it all, and I feel a little guilty for not having more faith in her. But she’s not Super Girl! Wish me luck figuring out how to survive the stress of waiting for her to check off boxes on her very long list.
So when she found out July 4, she lost downpayment with the original school? And did she accept?
The independence (resiliency) wave is starting. Even though we have a pretty invested group of parents in our school district, I have quite a few friends who are leaving everything to their kids (except for the cc payment, lol).
Well our UAH portal says accepted, but they haven’t mailed anything yet either. In perspective, no essay required. We have now submitted all the non-Common App schools, all of which had shorter essay prompts. She keeps promising to transform the shorter essays into one Comon App essay, but nothing yet. Georgia Tech is due 10/15, and she hasn’t completed the GC questionnaire either.
UAH is actually 4th choice if all $$ were equal. Still, I can breathe easier knowing that definitely in 9 months I am no longer a slave to the school calender, and there is a no-debt option on the table.
We’re taking off Friday to attend a Women in Engineering thing at Auburn. They’re in the top 4, too. With the exception of her RD lottery school, I’m highly suspicious that she’ll abandon the rest of the list.
@3SailAway So, to be fair, you daughter sounds like she has amazing drive and such a full complement of ECs and school. She’ll get it done. You might just remind her that it takes longer to get through it than she thinks. Ask her to commit to a deadline of Oct. 20 maybe? So many unexpected things can come up and throw off our perfectly laid plans.
@peachActuary73 UAH will mail somethong. An email should show up first, then about a week or two later, the big packet comes.
Does anyone know if any of the following schools (my DS’s near-final list) beside Pitt offer application fee waivers for students who have visited, or who ask for one (without financial need, just for expressing the interest):
MIT
Yale
Cornell
Carnegie-Mellon
Northeastern
UVM
RPI
Pitt
Waterloo
UVM does waive the admission fee for in-state students who apply EA.
@TwinMom2023 you’re right–she is organized and driven (more than I ever was at her age). Although she does have her moments when she gets paralyzed by panic because she’s taken on too much. I think gently reminding her that things can take longer than you think is the way to go. She could create her own earlier deadline as plenty of things could go wrong–she could get sick or have a technology issue. She loves Halloween so maybe that will help motivate her to finish before it.
@elena13 If your son is willing, I would say a handwritten note always stands out and is appreciated.
@mathmomvt We got on RPI’s list somehow and have a code for free application, which is a very effective tool b/c it was not on our radar b/f. Just go online and request information to be sent and I bet it’ll be included.
Thanks @TwinMom2023 we’ll give it a try. We live pretty close so I’m guessing we’re not the folks they’re trying to attract with a fee waiver, but it can’t hurt to try!
@ilovebillyjoel Yep, at that point she had committed to another school after accepted students day and we lost the deposit…it’s a risk when you have a favorite school from the beginning, especially when it’s a reach. That said, we don’t regret a thing.
@peachActuary73, my D19’s pattern was the UAH portal showing accepted, two days later a congratulations email saying she’d get a packet in two weeks, about a week later an email with more detail about logging into their system and such, and two or three days after that the actual packet came in the post.
The printed packet included mention of her (guaranteed by stats) scholarship, but said full details would arrive later from the scholarship office.
