University of New Mexico is not going to reject D20. I will stake any amount on that.
D19 got shirts from many of the schools she visited, even ones she decided not to apply to. She did/does wear them a lot, and D20 can wear them once D19 is done with them. A neighbor (who also has a senior) stopped me one day in April and said āDid I see D19 in an Elon shirt?ā I laughed and said, āOh, she has all the gear, but no, sheās going to Ohio State.ā Funny thing is she never even visited Elon. Her boyfriend did and brought her a shirt.
I did post pics from our tours but we toured a mix from reach to match to safety. I also get a little nervous when I see someone posting their tour pics and itās like 6 Ivy League Schools and MIT and Georgetown.
I have a Wash U sweatshirt that was mine 30 years ago that I gave to d20 a few years ago that she wears a lot. She wore it on our NYU tour and maybe one of our others⦠I thought maybe that was a bad idea but Iām sure they arenāt sitting there at the check-in desk giving kids demerits for wearing swag from the competitors ;-). Oh and University of Rochester gave all of the kids on tour a free t-shirt.
My hubby is a Lehigh alum and my kids have tons of gear and wear it regularly. We get a shirt at almost every school we visit. Itās a fun reminder. They get passed down between kids. We never considered it an issue. Between 3 kids we probably have 20+ shirts.
Funny story: D20 wore a Lehigh sweatshirt on May first and everyone thought she was committed there until they realized she was a junior. Just another dayā¦
Hi All. Just popping in to say my D20 did better than she thought on the practice AP BIO test which serves as her final exam in the class, so she was glad about that, the ballet performances are done and went well, so now she just has two APs to go (Bio and Lang) and two jazz performances Thursday and Friday night (plus rehearsals for the jazz shows Mon, Tues and Weds nights!) Phew.
Oh and in case my avatar looks strange - just changed it - used to be the green box with the yellow O but my D17 is transferring to UC San Diego, hence the new one
āYou are denser than a black hole.ā (My sonās friends told him today in relation to realizing when girls take an interest in him.)
(LOL random thought)
Same here with @MuggleMom
DS has been wearing T-shirts from various schools that he has toured often, and we posted college tour pictures online too. He definitely has his favorites but does not have a dream school, yet (hopefully stay this way). If anyone was talking about this, we never hear about it.
@CAtransplant
Good news! And what a busy week to come!
I like college T-shirts. I generally get one on visits irrespective of admission chances. But then, I donāt post much on social media. But Iām generally transparent. I realized that DS '14 and DD '17 visited a few places with very low admission chances. For DD '20, heās trying to get recruited and heās visited a few places with relatively low chances of getting an offer.
You canāt always get what you wantā¦
@CAtransplant congratulations to both kids! Fingers crossed that tomorrowās AP Bio exam is like the practice one.
Why did she decide to transfer?
@lkg4answers thanks! D17 wanted to major in Cognitive Science. She liked U Oregon, had some teachers she really liked and made some great friends there but they donāt have a Cognitive Science major so thatās why she is transferring. And UCSD has a great Cognitive Science department, so sheās excited about the move.
Hope you mothers had a great day!
Yep, I donāt think I ever posted a college visit on social media. Maybe U of South Carolina with D17 b/c itās so dang pretty! And, I like to buy the kids a shirt or sweats (sweat pants were more of a hit with D17) if they want it, but I do agree itās kind of a waste of money.
D20 has AP Bio tomorrow, too. Weāre not sweating it in our house, but good luck to those who are!
We posted about all of our college visits with D19 on fb, but she likes me to share. We always were open about what schools were huge reaches, but she loves the wide eyed and excited pics we have of what eventually became her college. Plus, we donāt usually travel, so it was fun for us to visit colleges- mini-vacations!
Confirmed yesterday that DS20 graduates the Sunday AFTER 2020 AP exams are over. That will make things a bit easier to juggle for me and less stressful for DD16! Can you guess who will not be at high school the following Monday?
My son graduates this weekend too. My DD20 will be missing Monday and Tuesday - so glad itās right after APs! Enjoy!
My D19 graduates this week too, and itās out of town. Unfortunately my D20 has her final band concert on Monday afternoon, so weāll be right back to our grind.
Iām always a little taken aback when I start seeing āgraduation is this weekend!ā messages here on CC in mid-May. In our NY school, graduation is Thur, 6/27 this year! I believe the last day of class is 6/14, followed by exams.
I have no idea what DD20 is going to do in AP Bio for the next month, since the AP exam is today. Some sort of final research project, I think.
Laughing at myself. Got my grad years wrong yesterday. It is DS16 that graduates college in May 2020 the weekend after DD20 finishes her AP exams in 2020. DD20 will miss HS the Monday after. Is it any wonder that I cannot write it out without error?
@Cheeringsection itās ok, totally figured out that was what you meant and I bet most others did too!
D20 thought APUSH and AP Gov went well. Now just AP English Lang on Wednesday. We loved college visits and posted about them for fun. Also bought the T-shirts. This year graduation is 6/11, so I expect next year to be similar.
We have only visited one school for S20 and he really liked it, but no tee-shirt. Heās been wearing my college alma mater gear since he was born, so I will totally buy more of that when we visit (state school-seems like what heās kind of aiming for right now). When I was visiting colleges for me back in the day, I bought tee shirts and didnāt think anything of it. I swear I wore my Gettysburg tee until after I had S20 as pjās. It was comfy, but I applied ED to Wake-not Gettysburg!!! Waitlisted at Wake-eventually came off-but my free tuition from my alma mater was too good to pass up.
