@washugrad
DS was at a camp last year where the only way we could reach him (barring emergency) was through USPS. It was not fun to learn from his snail mail about his AP results. Lol. No such problem this year.
Feels almost like a summer weekend here. No significant homework because of AP exams last week, grad parties to attend, DS16 on his way home from college, and great weather. I cannot wait until summer is really here and junior year is behind us. Now if I could just slow summer down and truly savor it before the craziness of applications beginsâŠ,but no! That is in June with an applications workshop. I know we are fortunate to have the school offering two of these over the summer but couldnât the students, and parents, have at least a month or so to just enjoy the summer? When DS16 did all this the workshop was in August.
@BingeWatcher she has been using Khan Academy for SAT prep. Thanks so much to you and @makemesmart for the additional recommendations!
I was nervous about D20 driving 3 friends home after prom last night but they all appear to have arrived safely and she got in at 12:30 so all is well.
AP question: was thinking about this as scattered-S20 thought the AP CS test was easy and he did well. Is it graded on a curve? that doesnât see right; to grade AP tests on a curve. Know anything?
His most-likely college & department doesnât take any score in it; so itâs not a huge deal either way. BUT - just curious!
@bgbg4us : All of them have some sort of calculus to the grading. Ine never need answer every questiin correctly to earn a â5â. And, yes, they are also graded on a scale.
The College Board releases prior yearsâ outcomes and grading calculus, including the rare perfect-scoring student percentages, somewhere on its website.
D20 went with her HS, junior/seniors to Six Flags (amusement park) last night (separate from prom), where they had it all to themselves from 9:00pm to 3:30 AM. She got home at 4:30am, but at least they rented buses from the HS to the park and back, so she only had to drive home from HS. She was driving a little past her 11:00pm curfew, though.
For those on Twitter, follow Trevor Packer. He tweets stats about AP test results in the weeks leading up to the score release.
@bigmacbeth in California if they are driving to or from work or a school sponsored activity the curfew is lifted.
I just figure at some point, itâs after the âafter curfewâ, so itâs actually before the next dayâs curfew.
This is the first time the issue has come up. Weâre going with several friends, so weâll be pretty occupied. Plus, her desired major is a four-year program regardless of AP credits. They university will accept them, but then she will just have to take more classes so that she doesnât drop to part-time status. There really is only room to get credit for three classes in the schedule without substitutions. Sheâs taking AP classes because thatâs the accelerated program at her school, she is already done with all of the âpreâ math and science classes, she thought some of the humanities AP sounded interesting (psychology, art history) and we figure she can always ârepeatâ the material for a college GPA boost if necessary. She just takes AP classes for the learning experience. Thus, it doesnât really matter what her AP exam scores are.
DSâ exam is over! Unofficially summer starts now!
We are ready!
Wow, congratulations, @makemesmart! Happy unofficial summer to you.
@HarrietMWelsch
Thank you DS is still going to school tomorrow just to say goodbyes. We are getting emails from school about senior portraits! Yikes!
Oh - the marketing by the senior portraits places is really quite suave here. We have many large HSâs in our area. thereâs a portrait company that sends out very slick, well made brochures to all of the juniors at the end of jr year featuring ONLY kids from their school in the brochures, wearing school sports uniforms, etc. Quite fancy! the kids who get their photos taken there get discounts for giving out emails/names of other kids from their school. they must be making a killing.
Crazy that summer vacation is starting for some. We still have five and half weeks of school left here!! Though D20 has taken her AP classes and for some reason is taking a final today? Not sure what they are doing for the next 5 weeks. I would guess very little but we will see.
APUSH is doing group projects, every group teaches the class for a day. D is doing the history of rock and roll.
AP Physics is doing optics, which was not on exam.
AP Chem is doing environmental chem which was not on exam.
AP Lang is doing book discussion groups
AP Calc is doing some extra topics and Zumba
History of rock and roll and Zumba sound fun! @VickiSoCal
Wondering why not all schools start school earlier so the kids could end school sooner?
In AP Lang, theyâre watching the movie version of a book they read. Of Mice and Men I think?
In AP Calc, they (students and teacher) played poker today, which I am perfectly fine with since D worked her tail off in that class all year long. Also, the seniors last day was Friday, so I think there is only about half a class left.
Last day of school is next Wednesday.
