Re: senior pics – our high school takes yearbook photos at school for freshmen through juniors. Seniors have to make an appt with the studio but the appts start in the summer and run for at least 2-3 months into the school year.
Re: college applications – Lots of college (2-year and 4-year) in Texas use Apply Texas (similar to Common App). Last year, our high school had 100% of the seniors apply to at least one college! I’m a firm believer that not all kids want or need to go to college BUT you can’t go if you don’t apply. Who knows how many kids got accepted and maybe ended up with financial aid that they never knew they could get? I think it’s pretty cool. DS said they have started working on their essays during English class. Which is also cool because I don’t have to make him do it at home!
We have made the first significant college purchase— a new laptop. DD20’s old one was just not going to make it one more year so we took advantage of the back to school deals. I pulled the computer requirements for the 6 schools currently on the application list and we bought for the most demanding situation. Let’s just hope she does not suddenly decide that engineering is her calling!
@Nicki20 Mine did too. She has taken it previously, but this was the only sitting that she actually had the time to really prepare for (over the summer). She came out of test feeling pretty good so I am cautiously hopeful. Best wishes to all who took it on Saturday. I hope they all did their best!
My daughter was going to take subject tests, but had Nutcracker auditions so decided against it. We’ll see whether she can fit in another sitting, or she’ll find out if “optional” really means optional. Only one of her schools even recommends (and yes we’ve read the thread that recommends really means required in most cases). She’s pretty close to the point of ditching the school versus sitting for another test.
@Nicki20 my S20 took it after taking a 2 week long Kaplan prep course in July. This was his second time and he will be done regardless of the outcome. He felt like he did better (he thought the Math was definitely easier for him this time around). Good luck to everyone else who took it!
My D20 took two subject tests - literature and U.S. history. Only one reach school recommends it. No matter what, though, she is done with standardized testing. Finally.
@Cheeringsection Oh I think that’s good! They should really get a feel for the weather possibilities if they’re going to live there for 4 years! But then again, I made S20 visit Miami in the summer
The weather forecast is part of the conspiracy to get my DS20 to go to that college far away in the South. Not sure who is leading it, but it just might work!
How do colleges interpret non-weighted GPA on a 4.0 scale where A+ gets you 4.3? If I have a 3.95 on that scale will they look at it as 3.95 or will they recalculate it?
Getting back to this thread after a long time. My D20 & S20 are just starting the application process and I am getting a bit nervous. I have gone through this process with S16 and I was super ready by this time. With my twins I feel I am underprepared…
