@Nicki20 just searched emails to see which offered free tickets: University of Illinois, Indiana University and Villanova
Yes, @Nicki20 we got the ticket offer, too! Interesting how the application dates keep moving up. Tulane had even said if you do regular decision you should say why you didnât apply earlier! The tickets are a cute idea, but wouldnât really help us since weâre so far away. Although, a really fun football game could do a lot to sway S20s opinion!
I think the October 15 is just for the tickets. November 1 is still the EA deadline. The thing with the Illinois tickets is the game would be against Northwestern which is a conference game and a rivalry game.
Smart way to fill the stadium. ![]()
@stencils
how do the kids connect via Naviance with the schools?
There are links to school websites, but nothing more AFAIK. Naviance is used to request that things be sent to schools (LOR, transcripts, etc) but there is no direct connection of student to school.
@Cheeringsection
Thanks - thatâs what I had thought as well but was confused with a prior posting.
@brown2024 @Cheeringsection
High Schools can choose different options that they make available for their students via Naviance. Our school gives colleges the option to request to âconnectâ â If you google âconnecting with colleges on navianceâ youâll see a Naviance blog post with the following:
Thanks @stencils ! Iâve never seen that feature but maybe it will be new to or district this year.
@Cheeringsection
A big banner that shows up in Naviance when you log in or visit the page for a specific school that is in the âColleges Iâm Interested Inâ list. The banner says âCollege XYZ wants to connect with you?â With buttons to select âConnectâ or to not connect. If your student agrees to connect, then they are presented with a checklist of data that will be shared with the university as part of agreeing to connect (with the option to uncheck items). The data includes email, phone number, GPA, and few other things, but not a full transcript or test scores.
My D connected with Hofstra and Fordham, and both just happened to send application fee waivers. I donât know if this is strictly coincidence, but perhaps these were connected. I expect itâs also just another way to demonstrate interest.
@stencils thanks for the instructions on how to find. I will have to check it out.
@stencils Another customization of Naviance that some schools just donât see. It sounds cool, but I went to schools on D20âs college list in Naviance (logged in as her), and also to Hofstra, and, sadly, no choice to âconnectâ.
My D got the fee waiver from Fordham too. She hasnât connected with them on Naviance but I think she did sign up for more info on their website as sheâs gotten a lot of mail & email from them. She might just apply since itâs free and she is somewhat interested but we wonât have time to visit.
Is every kid here done with their common app essay? Mine hasnât. Yikes! He was so busy with his 7 week internship and then had to work on intensive summer assignments for his AP classes.
We got the Fordham offer and have shown absolutely no interest in the school. The funny thing is that they sent the offer to both the email that we use for College Board as well as the primary email address.
Today was a record high 21 emails from colleges. Things are ramping up!
@Octagon Heck no. My daughter is not done with her essay, either. Sheâs done several different drafts, but nothing that sheâs happy with, yet. I urged her to finish it before her summer ended and she got busy. Nope.
My twin daughters are seniors this year. One has a draft the other hasnât decided which topic to use. Summer was insane for them since they both are pursuing the IB diploma and had work in every class along with extended essay plus jobs. I finally nailed them both down the last week of summer to get the common app done before school starts, at least to the point of the essay.
Done with the essay?! I think she has a few content ideas on her phone.
Admittedly, today is the first day of school here and they spend much the first several weeks of senior English class working on their essays.
OK, sounds like Fordham is free and loose with the app fee waivers!
@Octagon Nope. My S has to do questbridge essays as well, that he hasnt finished. He signed up for some essay workshops to give him motivation, since the workshops at least need a draft done.
