D17 and S14 both applied to 10 schools, they were chasing merit aid.
S20 just hit submit on his likely one and done last night.
Different kids, different choices.
I am quite happy because we hit essay fatigue here after the one and done. I’m not sure if we would have survived the 15 plus essays the other two did for apps and scholarships.
My children’s high school has a very experienced group of college counselors and yet every year something happens with UC admission that really surprises them. Last year, it was how many students gained admission to UCSD. So, while it’s frustrating to have to pay $70 a pop, my kid will probably apply to 6 campuses. In my mind, the UC app counts as one school, regardless of how many campuses are checked off.
My D is almost finished with the UC application and it is definitely easy to apply to additional ones, however, her major is not offered at all of them. This is also true for the Cal States. So, it seems as if, for now, her list of 5 will stand. She can always add more up until the November 30 deadline.
I really appreciate hearing everyone’s perspective and giving me things to think about that I had not considered. I also just love reading about everyone’s journey through this crazy process.
However, the College Board does not require payment until the end of the year. The individual schools are the ones who decide when and how to collect payment and when to impose late fees. The College Board only changed the ordering date to November 1. Not the payment date.
My DD20 is done with applications! 3 in and all auto admits so no real stress. Last acceptance came in and now we wait for tomorrow and the FAFSA so we can start receiving merit amounts. She is pursuing Nursing so not concerned about prestige of school so much and likes the 2 we have visited. Third one is coming up in next month or so. 3rd and final ACT is done as well so now she can just enjoy senior year and have some fun as well as classes of course. Love the TX auto admit plan!
@txsparty Congrats on being done with apps. My D20 is also pursuing nursing. Are the TX schools all auto-admit into nursing, or auto-admit to the school, or both? Hope she enjoys visit at #3 and the rest of her senior year, we’re getting close.
Dd submitted her application. I have mailed her transcripts, course descriptions, and school profile. Scores sent. We need to see what she needs to do to be considered in-state (she will be; we just need to find out exactly what she needs to do).
So, I guess those misleading envelopes will start arriving about now. You know, the ones that make you think your kid has been accepted and/or received a large scholarship. Yeah, those.
DS had one school update the portal with just “Decision letter sent” or something like that. He had to wait the 5 days for the big envelope. It drove him nuts…he couldn’t understand why they wouldn’t just put the decision in the portal. But after the fact he admitted checking the mailbox everyday and sitting with an envelope not knowing what was inside until he opened it was kind of fun. He was most excited about that acceptance. The others were “oh, look…got in”.
@lkg4answers I didn’t say it’s rational. But, if an envelope (from School University Admissions) arrived 2 weeks after your kid applied to School U, would you throw it in the recycling because you don’t need any more marketing material from School U? Nope, you’d be like: Dang, did we miss an email!? When is kid gonna get home so we can open this sucker up!!!??
With regard to AP scores, do we just have those sent around the time applications are done and send along with SAT scores? Or do we wait to send those until decisions are made? For all 5 of the schools my dd has applied to so far, we can’t seem to find any specific info about when to send AP scores. I suppose we could call the schools, but I thought I’d check in with you knowledgeable folks first, haha.
That was my thought as well. I just find it strange that we can’t find any mention of it anywhere. Maybe because it is assumed the official scores will be sent later?
