No need to send any AP scores now - colleges do not want them. You can choose to self-report them on the common-app if you want. If wanting credit for them, one sends official scores to the college one is going to.
We would like colleges to know that she got 5âs, so i guess we will self report on the common app. Thanks for the heads up, octagon. That is good to know.
There is no need or colleges do not want them? If I donât mind paying for them and would rather get the reports out of the way, is there a problem sending AP scores now?
What is the best way to let colleges know of first quarter grades from senior year for the early action schools?
AP scores get sent to the registrar. Admissions will never get it. Self report.
My memory is that your DC can list the school they plan to matriculate to when they take APs as a senior and all scores will be sent. Can anyone else confirm?
@Cheeringsection I can confirm. That is what happened for both my DD18 and my DS20 had all of his AP Scores sent to the school he is doing his dual enrollment at since he listed the school on his AP forms. They sent all AP scores.

Texas schools are not auto-admit for Nursing. 2+2 with competitive admissions. Many do give preference for those who complete prereqs at their campus. UT-Tyler, her first choice, guarantees admit if you finish prereqs there and meet all of the admission scores etc. So almost like an auto admit. Now we finish the FAFSA and wait on scholarship offers to see what happens!
HI - My S20âs Naviance changed. It no longer shows scattergrams - and that was the part I found most useful. Any idea what this could be? The high school getting a cheaper subscription? It also lists a few subject test scores that S20 never took. Hmmmm
D20 received her merit award for U of Iowa today, which officially makes it affordable. Figured it would be, but itâs nice to have confirmation. Now if we can just get her into nursingâŠ
Congratulations on the merit award @bigmacbeth! I attended a guidance talk and was told that colleges donât consider AP scores in admissions but I donât actually believe that - especially for elite colleges.
Yesterday I attended my last back to school night in my life - bittersweet!

This is a much debated topic and general consensus on CC seems to be that AP scores are not a factor in admission time. It maybe true at some/most colleges - but I too feel that these scores do matter to âsome extentâ.
This is based on a session we attended at a top-30 college - the talk was about how they take admission decisions. AOâs explained that they go over apps in multiple rounds - academic fit being one of the first rounds (EC, Talent, special circumstances considered more in subsequent rounds). At the end of the talk they had an exercise with 5 real student profiles from 2023 class and asked all 200+ attendees to participate in selecting 2 candidates. Its a revealing exercise and bottomline is AP scores mattered in that exercise - not as much as gpa/sat but differences between candidates is so small (they deliberately selected the profiles like that) any small tip can make a diff. They rated students into 5 categories and any +ve additional info can tip the student into a better level (they donât have a lot of time and AOâs mentioned they actually try/search to see positives). So the optional subject test and AP test scores mattered a bit for that college.
Tidbit: the final selections by 200+ audience members (majority of them being high schoolers) matched exactly to the real decisions. That convinced me that college admissions may not be as random as they appear sometimes. There is a method to this madness.
Daughter got her first acceptance yesterday. UM-TC. I have seen a couple others on here getting accepted too. Way early in the process but nice to get the first one.
Understand the bittersweet feeling since this is my only kid. Did the back to school night too. Ironically I think my daughterâs October birthday one is going to be the toughest one till graduation. The grandmas are getting older with health issues and this may be the last one together for the 5 of us. I hate to be morbid but have to be realistic.
about AP scores: just canât figure out to include his few 4/5s - and not the 3s â or just none at all. S20 took at hit with a 3 in calc.
Is a few scores better than none? do showing the 3s hurt? that âAP scholar of distinctionâ really doesnât mean much, does it . âŠ?
The AP awards doesnât mean much other than drilling home that they took a lot of AP courses. Iâve read that they are doing away with those awards.
The 3 score in Calculus will get you credit generally at most schools depending on where you are applying.
As to the AP scholar with distinction that really isnât that many AP courses. If you get a 3 on five or more you get it. Iâm not sure thatâs âa lot of AP coursesâ. As to there eliminating that award I heard the same thing.
I would include the 3s as it might be assumed you got 1 & 2s and is the reason not submitting.
This sounds reasonable. I think the approach we will take is to send the scores to the colleges where dd is hoping for merit aid, just to make sure all the iâs are dotted and tâs are crossed. For others, such as CSUâs, that really donât seem to consider AP scores, or where we arenât as concerned about merit, we will wait.
@bigmacbeth when did your daughter fill out the scholarship info? Just curious how quickly they notify you. Itâs still on my daughterâs todo list along with the Honors app.
@Darcy123 - DS got his University of Iowa merit award a few days ago too, but there wasnât a separate scholarship app (at least the one we got didnât have one). It was just the incoming merit based on GPA and test scores. I think they said they range from 1-12K/year or something like that.
