Parents of the HS Class of 2020 (Part 1)

@pathtotruth
We will be doing around 15 so you are not way off:)

My daughter has 12 on her list. 1 Rolling, 1 ED, 4 EA and 6 RD- but unfortunately 4 of the RD have an earlier scholarship deadline than her projected ED release. So far she’s finished 8.

Applying to 9 here. Doesn’t matter what others are doing, though.

DS applied to 5…one by accident (don’t ask  ) He’s been accepted to all and now starts the torment of the decision. I think money will be the deciding factor.

D20 has applied to 7 with one acceptance so far.

S applied to 11. Hoping at least the first response in will be an acceptance!

D20 is planning to apply to 10, unless any drop off now that she has an acceptance. Her RD schools are all reaches, though, and I doubt she’ll drop them.

D20 applied to 5 but really it only took 2 applications since we are in California. Two are safeties and the other 3 are reaches.

D20 has applied to seven so far, including one ED, three EA and three RD. Working on applying to a total of 11, but if ED doesn’t come through I’m guessing we will both get cold feet and will want to add a couple more. So far none of her schools have sent her a decision. Hats off to those with acceptances already!

My daughter applied to just four (we visited three other schools as well, but she didn’t like them enough to apply). She was accepted to all four and decided over the weekend she wants to go to the University of Missouri-Columbia.

DS has applied to 7 as well: 1 ED, 5 EA & 1 rolling. The ED and the rolling are reaches, so he will probably apply to a few more. Still TBD is ED2, if needed…

S20 has applied ED to 1 school and has 7 more on his list. I’m going crazy waiting to hear what the college’s big decision is in mid-December, though at least not yammering to my son about it. Any suggestions for getting through this wait and worry stage?

CC’s mobile version was not working for me today till now, we surpassed 400 pages and 8000 posts!
DS so far only applied to one EA, will apply to 7 more in RD and/or ED2 rounds.

DD has done 1 rolling, 4 EA and 1 RD with a scholarship deadline the same as if she applied ED. She is done applying unless she suddenly decides to add 1-2. I do NOT foresee that happening.

DS applied to 9 and has 3 more applications to complete. So far 2 acceptances, 1 with a really nice merit award. Waiting to see what happens with his number 1 and 2 pick before making any decisions.

DS20 is applying to around 10 I think. He has done 5 so far and has at least 4 more to go. I wish he would just get them out! He isn’t doing any ED, just rolling, EA, and RD.

@mtemmd - I know how you feel. It’s so hard on them with school and ECs. I really wish schools would go easy on them for the first quarter.

D20-1 is applying to 9 schools. D20-2 is applying to 15. D20-2 has one real reach. The rest are solid match and safeties. All but two of these are rolling admissions. All EA. No RD yet. Middle income, just playing the merit aid game to see what fits our budget in the end. Since there are two, I wanted them to have unique choices so nobody felt boxed in.

We are middle income too with twins (2022) coming fast behind DS20. We don’t have nearly enough saved and are definitely hoping for merit. And the not knowing is so hard! He has a nice mix of targets and safeties and a reach or 2. But even with targets and safeties it feels like nothing is a guarantee. The whole process is crazy making.

Jdhmom, DS20’s school took it easy on the seniors for the first quarter, but now the work is really ramping up. It’s why I tried to get him to get everything done as early as possible. But sometimes it’s like talking to a brick wall. Oh well, it will get done.

Ds20 applying to 10, all early action/priority. It would have been 7, but he got a few app fee waivers and just decided to go for it. 2 acceptances so far—his safety, and what we thought was a reach (with a nice amount of merit $ as well— Glad we didn’t listen to Naviance on that one, lol). His top choices probably won’t send acceptances until mid-Dec at the earliest, so we are just waiting. Feeling happy and incredibly lucky to have options.
