Parents of the HS Class of 2021 (Part 1)

How can one quickly find the 2020 acceptance rates for colleges/unis by category ED/EA/RD? I am trying to help DS pull together a spreadsheet for his college apps and one of the columns we wanted to list was this info to help him determine if he wants to ED somewhere?

I went to some of the admissions websites and did not see the info, eg, UNC, Mudd, etc/

I thought there was a thread last year with this info but I have not seen it this year?

Thanks

@yearstogo To find them yourself takes a little time and patience. Focus googling on colleges’ class profiles and campus news articles. There is also a group-sourced thread that would ordinarily be more busy, but the virus situation has overshadowed that, still lots of links thanks to bronze2: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/college-admissions/2166157-college-admission-statistics-class-of-2024.html

@burghdad Hm about that Miami scholars program. Many summer institutes have already been moved online. Wake just announced that their programs will be online. I’m sure that’s a big hit for them. They have a pretty robust summer program. I bet Miami is just late to the game deciding to make the change.

We are in PA and schools are now online for the rest of the year. My oldest at Pitt has had summer study abroad cancelled and they have moved summer classes online. For my D21, the Notre Dame leadership seminar in July has been canceled, and they will be offered an online substitution. Fingers crossed campuses can open in the fall, but looks like schools have to plan just in case.

@homerdog I was surprised as well but here is first line from email she got on Friday

ā€œWe may be working from home for now, but we fully expect to be back on campus in Oxford, Ohio, in July to welcome students for Miami University’s Summer Scholars Program. And there’s still time to apply.ā€

@burghdad yeah I get it. Miami can say whatever they want but I think it’s irresponsible to be advertising their summer program as ā€œon campusā€ while still trying to get kids to apply when SO many other schools are being transparent and either moving online for July or at least saying it’s a possibility. Just my opinion but I would stay away from any schools that aren’t being open and honest about this virus situation in July. No way Miami can just plain say class in on campus in July. Why would they ā€œfull expectā€ to be on campus when everyone else cancelling? Not a good look.

D21 and I meet with her college counselor yesterday via Zoom, I definitely prefer in person. She ask D21 to create a google sheet with all the colleges that are on SCOIR that she wants to remove. SCOIR is the system they use that replaced Naviance. The list of colleges came from college counseling, herself and me. I thought it was interesting that she wanted the reasons she did not like the schools. She also mention she needed to find more likely school for her list. SO if anyone has suggestions of LAC with strong Classics/Latin and Psychology departments with acceptance rates over 20% please let me know.

I work at Penn, and they just cancelled all summer camps and precollege and moved the two summer sessions to online. Basically, no one will be back on that campus until end of August at the earliest.

@Mcru1231 right. I think colleges can put off summer on campus at this point. Those programs are about two months away from now. That means they would likely have to make decisions about fall in early July at the latest.

S21 told me his GF told him that Buckeye Girls State was just cancelled. Still don’t know about Boys State - he was told their decision would come at the end of this month. @burghdad and @homerdog - my kid got that same email from Miami. Still @OneMoreToGo2021 - my S21 also got that email from Williams - a lot will depend on how comfortable the college is with risk/liability.

Dickinson
Hamilton
W&L

Hamilton and W&L are both sub 20% acceptance rates.

@eb23282 Thanks, I will have her take a look.

Received from a college counseling listserv today that evidently ETS sent a survey to High Schools (and maybe non-HS testing sites) checking into availability for these dates for SAT administration:

July 25
Aug 8
Sept 19
Sept 26

We’re waiting to hear about Texas Boys State as well…S21 is supposed to be going. If it does get cancelled, I suppose he’ll show on his college resume that he was selected but Covid got in the way :frowning:

@Mwfan1921 Hey July 25th is my birthday. An SAT would be a great present!

@AOP1925 Maybe Kenyon?

I started a thread about Girls State/Boys State. D has not received official word, but I saw on Facebook that Girls State (MN) is cancelled.

Hamilton was 24.2% in 2018
W&L was 22% in 2018

@eb23282 I’d be careful with those acceptance rates. I’m sure they are much lower that that in RD.
