@AlwaysMoving It was an interesting article discussing the changes that are projected to occur in college admissions because of the pandemic. It discussed the ways the schools may evaluate more holistically since a lot of them are going test optional. They were discussing whether the changes would be temporary or permanent.
D doesnāt have any SATs under her belt and I was only able to get her into Aug yesterday. I tried Sept and Oct for about an hour and gave up. Maybe Iāll give it another shot now. Her school is supposed to give an all-school SAT in Sept but I think Iām going to try to get her a Sept regular spot instead of Oct. Oct is just so late
Didnāt she register for June SAT which got canceled? In that case, she qualifies for second priority too.
Our county had scheduled a free county wide SAT for the first time ever for March. They just announced that they will not be able to commit to a fall school day SAT offering until it has been cleared and approved by the Governor and State Board of Education, who will not make that call until plans for reopening are more on the table. This is Virginia.
Just logged on and November looks like itās the first SAT available now? Not sure if we should bother. Any advice? I guess sheād still have her scores close to Dec 1 for ED. Right now, she only has an Aug seat and that would be her first time taking it. Ugh.
@Suave123 correct. She was registered for March and for June and both were cancelled. I got a seat for Aug yesterday by changing June. When I was logged in yesterday I could see seats for Sept and Oct but kept getting the notice that server busy or whatever when I tried to register for those. Today when I log in, I donāt get Sept or Oct even as an option at all and the first rest on the list of options is Nov.
@homerdog. I would not be surprised if schools offer a bit of latitude for when they get standardized test scores for ED, given that seats are likely to be scarce. It might make sense to grab the November seat just in case. If sheās happy with her August score and doesnāt need it, then you cancel and youād only be out fifty bucks or so.
Anyone else have trouble with payment errors when registering for August SAT Subject Tests? I tried 3 times and kept getting system errors - but it appears that the payments were authorized. So now I donāt know whether the registration will eventually go through, whether Iāll have duplicates or whatā¦
@HMom16 ugh! You mean you checked your credit card and the charges went through? I might have a dozen charges then! I always got to the very end when I was trying for Sept and Oct yesterday but then it would sit and sit and then say there were problems.
@homerdog I wanted to register our kid for Oct thinking that the cancelled school offering could be in Sept. So since the website was so screwy, we didnāt even see that option to move our original registration until today. Who knows if it would have even worked, since we didnāt actually pay for that one. Now I am thinking if the school does offer it in Sept, I can move the one we paid for to Oct. Maybe more testing sites will open by then, because seats were going quick.
@Meddy Bleh. Well, I do hope D21 will get an all-school one in Sept. It was just weird that Sept and Oct donāt show up AT ALL. I donāt get what that means since there were dozens of options for test centers just 25 miles from here for both Sept and Oct yesterday. I didnāt even bother looking farther than thatā¦and now does it mean there are none? Across the whole country?
Iāll probably grab Nov if itās still there I guess.
@homerdog I thought about Nov too, but I bet I can always get a seat outside the area if nearby is sold out. However, there are still seats now available for both Sep and Oct test dates here, so Iāll wait until 6/3.
@homerdog We logged in within 2 minutes of the email notification and we saw that there were no testing sites within 75 miles. How CB does not classify D21ās high school as rural is beyond me. Anyhow, within 10 minutes, testing centers for locations 80-100 miles away were full for some dates. This morning she showed 2 additional incomplete registrations on College Board. Iām hoping we, too will not have incurred hundreds of dollars in charges lol.
I just checked and itās letting me register S21 for September & October test datesā¦iām holding off for now, need to find out if our school will have a September testing date
Did you finish the whole process and take it to payment? Coz we tried for our son (he is one time priority and registered for August, wanted to add another one for October) it did show us the test centers etc but when we clicked submit, gave the error msg that we need to wait until June 3rdā¦
Or you may have 2 times priority, thatās why able to have another registrationā¦
The Nov multiple choice results will be released 11/20 and the essay score, if needed and taken, will be released within the following week. Here in CA, the UC deadline is 11/30. So, I know Iād be paying the extra rush score fee, which I donāt mind. But I think with the test optional policy will relieve some test demand for Sep/Oct.
Notwithstanding, Iāve got a good feeling that Dās August test score will be a winner.
?
@sushiritto
Is it clear that UCs donāt require essays anymore? I read it recently that they have dropped the requirement for SAT with essay when they announced TO for the next 2 years and then test blind for the next 2 more years. Pls correct me as my son has registered for SAT without essay.
Omg. Now Iām wondering if D is registered for Sept and Oct since I tried multiple times and never got a confirmation but I also didnāt double check to see if we had sept and Oct registrations partially done. I just looked and there they are!! So I completed the Sept one. Yea!
You have that right. UCs will no longer use the essay.
@homerdog I tried paying with my Amex and then also with PayPal. Both showed the charges yesterday but it looks like the PayPal charges have disappeared now. The Amex ones are still there, shown as Pending. There is no indication on my sonās account that the registration went through but Iām reluctant to try again just yet.
