Parents of the HS Class of 2021 (Part 1)

@eb23282 Some sort of circuits. I don’t ask too many questions. I think he needs to pick up an oscilloscope soon?

@4kids4us - what a great job for a summer -bathing dogs. It will likely be a huge learning experience as I imagine some dogs like their baths more than others. He may end up with a few bumps and bruises and a better appreciation for manual labor before summer is over!

@zinnia203 - that’s amazing to have such a full time professional job this summer; glad it moved online rather than getting canceled.

Anyone able to get a SAT (subject test) refund WITHOUT rescheduling? If so, how? I can never talk with anyone when I try and call. Big surprise, I know! ?

We have decided to forego rescheduling it since he doesn’t want to have to study all summer for 1-2 schools at most.

I’m a Penn employee and was just notified that they will be going TO for 2021 class applicants.

@Zinnia203 soldering iron, oscilloscope, circuits…this would be perfect for my D. Is your son planning on majoring in electrical engineering?

D is in a remote electrical engineering research apprentiship and learing about loop theory and microcontrolllers right now they are so far only reading and having lectures via Microsoft Team, no lab type work. VERY cool for your son!!!

@TVBingeWatcher2 I don’t think he has a lot of interest in electrical engineering, to be honest, but he’s still undecided. He leans more toward math, comp Sci, science and that space where they intersect, but more in a theoretical way, and less engineering? Or at least that’s my take on it. Other summer students in the lab are tackling the programming for this project. Perhaps he got the circuit boards because it was new for him?

He only started working with hardware today. There’s been a good bit of grumbling coming from his bedroom, with trips to the garage to find different tools.

Today was quite the ego boost for my D. She never ran for any office in her life but is now chapter president for her school’s NHS! Voting was online, of course, eleven self-nominees (out of fifty members) that were then narrowed to three candidates and a re-vote today. She was on pins and needles.

I don’t know if she will actually have THAT much responsibility and I’m under no illusion that this will be more than a small positive blip on her college application, but I’m as proud of her just for putting herself out there as for winning, as she has been a quiet, stay-in-the-background kid all her life. Now she sees that perhaps she is more respected than she thought. ?

@inthegarden A big congrats to your daughter! I love hearing when students who aren’t always front in center are placed in a position of leadership. These students have typically observed a lot over the years of how to make things happen!! Well done!!!

@inthegarden Congrats and I echo what @123Mom123 said. In some ways our girls are so much alike.

@inthegarden Congrats to your daughter!

@inthegarden - congrats to your daughter. Just saw a cute post on Grown and Flown insta page of a girl with a yard sign that said “Zoom Student of the Month”. The post was all about how other kids always get recognized and she is a strong student, average athlete, works hard and just doesn’t get noticed as much as others - so she made the sign and recognized herself - made me  and even tear up a little.

Thanks, @123Mom123, @TVBingeWatcher2, @Aguadecoco!

She was also able to register for the October SAT with no problems today. Is scheduled for the August test (makeup for March/June) as well and may not take the October test if she is satisfied with August results or just can’t stomach another test. Hate to pay for yet another test that may not be needed but I’d rather have that backup than not. I also might not take up that spot if kids from this area were scrambling to get any test at all but it doesn’t seem to be a problem in this low-population area.

Hello,

Just finding this thread and hope it’s okay to join in.

D21 was signed up for April ACT, which was obv cancelled and I rescheduled to June. At that time I also signed her up for the July sitting, not knowing how things would look with Covid. Now that June is cancelled, we will either reschedule or cancel depending on how July goes!

Does anyone know if they have released additional dates?

Thanks, @coffeeat3 …Aww, that’s a cute story!

Welcome, @Solstice155 ?

@inthegarden Congratulations to your daughter for putting herself out there - and winning! That’s so great! She must be so excited.

Welcome @Solstice155 I’m not certain if ACT has released any additional dates

Thanks @3kids2dogs ?

June ACT that was on just cancelled. Daughters BFF was signed up, got the all good email earlier this week, and an updated email just now. We are scheduled for July at the same site. So even “good” sites are not a sure thing.

@Rue4 I am still sticking with my prediction that no June ACTs will happen!
