Parents of the HS Class of 2024 (Part 1)

Alright, so in the spirit of celebrating every acceptance and/or bragging, my S24 got into FSU with a scholarship that is in addition to the state funded full-tuition scholarship he qualifies for. We are the most excited about this acceptance so far, and the scholarship was an exciting surprise!

I will say that these forums are a nice place to share both successes and rejections!! And provide really valuable insights / affirmation.

Wow - more money than BF?

FSU is a great get and you never hear a bad word about it.

So it’s great to have it, even at full pay for an OOS which you aren’t.

Congrats to your student.

I have posted two of my daughter’s acceptances. They weren’t bragging and most of my friends don’t even know the schools as they are on the opposite coast.

Truthfully I couldn’t care what other people think as I enjoy getting notifications years down the road with the pictures. Whenever I see a memory picture I send it to my daughter and remind her of when she said she would be moving right next door to me when she grew up.

Yes, FSU does have scholarships on top of Bright Futures.

We were not expecting it so we’re surprised and thrilled! S24 was definitely flattered and excited. If he gets into the honors college it will be hard for him to choose something else. All the kids we know who go to FSU love it and have great outcomes.

Now this is the REAL value of CC:
You learn all those words, that Shakespeare didn’t think of.

D24 & S24’s schools both do this as well - May 1 college sweatshirt day. It’s fun!

D24 is like this. Her idea of slacking is allowing herself to get a ā€œlow Aā€ . I am actually really hoping she eases up on herself a bit.

S24 is being kept in line by the threat of having his Ivy D1 commit taken away - his likely letter said he was expected to maintain his ā€œpresent levelā€ of academic performance and personal integrity for the rest of the year. And he is taking it seriously, as we have heard of commits from this school being dropped for grade issues. (Incidentally, another HYP Ivy commit was told by the college coach (different school & sport than my S24) that he could immediately drop 2 classes. S24 asked his coach about this (of course!), and was basically told it would be a very difficult process and he would have to have a very good reason! ).

S24’s expected REA acceptance comes 1 hour before his twin’s ED decision… FUN times…! Exciting for him but could also be tough for D24. She has good attitude about it, though, and though her ED school is her #1, it isn’t #1 by much, and she will hopefully have other great options if it doesn’t work out. Plus, she is super excited for her brother.

Congrats to all of the ED/ EA acceptances and holding out hope for a great RD round for everyone else…

Thankfully I was distracted by D22 coming home :grinning:. So wonderful having her back in the house for 5 weeks! Now I am back to wondering when D24s ED school will announce decisions…

Is not announcing ED dates & times just a new form of hell the schools have thought up? SO frustrating!

D24 has 4 C’s on her transcript and so far, she’s been accepted to 5 out of the 7 schools she’s applied to, still waiting to hear decisions on the last 2. And of the 5 she’s had ā€œyes’sā€ from so far, she could definitely see herself being content at 2 of them.

There’s a place out there for everybody.

My S is one of those - he has a couple favorites but of the 16 he applied to, he still wants to keep all but 1 on his list. He applied EA everywhere but didn’t do ED anywhere.

We will have a lot of visits to do this spring and a lot of conversation about priorities. Finances will definitely come into that discussion too - I think the schools that have already offered money have gone up his list (can’t blame him - it’s nice to feel ā€œwantedā€ and is helping him to realize that he’ll have options that won’t land him in a massive pile of debt).

I was hoping by now he’d have a shorter list but I’m relieved that he’s got options that he’s happy about!

That is downright mean. Why would they waste everyone’s time doing this?

Swarthmore!

He about killed us last night. Decisions came out at 7. Practice didn’t get out until 6:30, then had to get to dinner, took his time to eat dinner with the team, had to run to the health center to pickup antibiotics for an ear infection. Finally, got back to his dorm by quarter to 8. At that point, DH and I were deep into the martinis.

Congratulations! That’s fantastic! I loved Swarthmore when I toured with D24. What a special place!

Sorry he tortured you. At least he had a good reason. My S24 didn’t check his portal for over two hours yesterday first because he forgot and then when I reminded him he was in the middle of a video game
