Parents of the HS Class of 2024 (Part 1)

Yes, and I have also had it before. So far the symptoms peaked quickly and are fading fast, so knock on wood.

At first sign of sickness, I always take zinc and vitamin D.

One of our relatives is some super duper professor of something who said vitamin D deficiency is why more people get sick in the winter time.

So running bad but bumps good? I gave up moguls a long time ago and haven’t skied much in the past few years. Maybe February will be my month (was sick most of January).

Ha! Hope you are feeling better. I had covid a couple of weeks ago -right on the heels of the flu (fun times). Now I’m in dry February so I can’t even celebrate feeling better . . . .

Interestingly, I had my vitamin D checked in Oct and it was “critically low.” The doc put me on a weekly super high dosage and I haven’t had even a stuffy nose this winter. I sleep better too. Back to daily dosing, those of us who live in the rain really seem to need it!

The combination of vitamin D and zinc supposedly helps reduce the longevity of colds/flus etc. But supposedly you have to take it soon after symptoms appear otherwise the effect isnt as great.

I travel about 2 weeks/month and I always take these vitamins before meeting a bunch of people.

I have no scientific evidence that any of this works but IMO, there’s no downside.

One of the schools S24 applied to (RIT) is dealing with the FAFSA delay by putting out their own (new) financial aid form. It is
.just all the questions on the FAFSA, but now we have to enter them manually and without automatic data retrieval. :sob:

2 of daughter’s applications had this - one has a specific form (not CSS) that asked for copies of tax returns as well as W2s and 1099s - my husband is a freelancer so it was a lot of scanning! But, I am hopeful that if she is admitted, we’d at least have an idea of true cost at those schools separate from FAFSA records.

In a way, while a pain, I think I would much rather have this then have to wait until end of March or later. Actually I wish they would just ask for the CSS since we already completed that.

You should see all my excel sheets as I try to plan! You would think that after having a child graduate HS in 2020, I would learn that you can’t plan anything!

I am an IT project manager by trade. And from a project management perspective, the new FAFSA roll out has been one giant disaster of an implementation. If I worked in financial aid right now, I’d be pulling my hair out. They should have postponed the go live another year.

A government run program that’s not working efficiently? Shocking.

Wow. This fafsa thing is a mess. Good on OSU. (And yes, I mean the west coast OSU, not the other two(?) places that go by OSU)

I wouldn’t be surprised if more follow suit - not just for the benefit of students, but for financial aid staff as well.

we got that email last night, too.
Doh.

Of course, I accidentally sent RIT our CSS form back in December
would love to tell them to just look at that.

Posted elsewhere, but wanted to update here, too. D24 accepted to Stevens Institute of Technology with a Tuition Exchange scholarship (brings COA down to close to our instate flagship). We had anticipated admission was a reach for her, so to get in and get this hefty aid is such a happy surprise.
