Parents of the HS Class of 2024 (Part 2)

I guess that is the downside to giving the testing companies and Niche your personal information.

Thank you! I’ve set up FA appointments with Dartmouth, Wesleyan, Swat, and Bowdoin. I’m not messing around here.

Also, we finally got WashU’s financial aid package, and it’s pretty good! I can’t tell whether D24 got a small scholarship in addition to the normal grant aid, but it beat the NPC by about 20%.

We just got WashU’s aid package as well and wow! it’s generous. That definitely made it shoot to the top of the charts for us parents.

I don’t know why this popped into my mind but what would happen if a mathematician stopped by the event wearing a t-shirt that said “ Mathematician because even Physicists need heroes”?

Having a blast wearing my new hat cheering for South Carolina in the women’s tournament! Great win for my new favorite team! The post decision phase is fun

They wont be stopped. That team is a juggernaut.

I spent time in Iowa City, and even I fear that you are correct. This is the revenge tour for last year’s defeat

S24 closed the last day of admission with 2 more WL - UMich and Stanford. There are too many waitlists and I’m worried that he will continue to hold out hopes for some schools. We will see how it goes.

Speaking of sports, my husband and I are having a mild difference of perspective. H is a UF Gators fan, but did not graduate from there. I have a graduate degree from UGA and have been a Dawgs fan. But now S24 will be a Gamecock. All three are SEC teams and, in the South, sports rivalries are a big deal. I immediately shed all prior allegiance to UGA and am 100% all in on Gamecocks. Husband says no way will he ever change his Gator allegiance and will only begrudgingly wear his new Gamecocks hat. I am perplexed by his position, and he says I do not understand what it means to be a sports fan.

So, how do your allegiances stand up when confronted with a child choosing a rival school?

I’m sorry but your husband is right here :)
except for wearing of a rivals hat.

Yep, your husband is right.

Our D was a USC Trojan and we always rooted for them unless they were playing the Oregon Ducks. Then they were the enemy

The obvious answer is none of the above and only root for Texas when they join the SEC next year.

Also an acceptable answer

My kid did the math: accepted to 100% of EA schools.

Rejected/waitlisted at 80% of their RD/UC/CSU schools.

The expansion of the SEC actually is super helpful for us because South Carolina doesn’t play UF or UGA for the next 2 years (no more SEC East v West).

I like UT, and would wholeheartedly cheer for them over Alabama every day of the week! And over the other SEC UT too!

Same with S24 ended his final college decision with UMICh with a waitlist. They seem to waitlist 15 to 20% of applications. Not sure why do that that. I had totally forgotten we were still waiting for UMich until I saw the email today.

I feel this will drag on until June if S24 does not fall in love with one of the 3 schools he visits .

Your S24 has some great options with UNC and CMU. Hope the visits go well.

I would also like to thank everyone here. Special shoutout to @TonyGrace and @NiceUnparticularMan in this thread for all the input and guidance

We visited UNC a while back along with other schools he eventually got rejected and waitlisted. We are visiting CMU next week during his spring break.

Unfortunately, he is super excited about being waitlisted at Stanford
starting to work on LOCI right away.

I really was hoping it would be all done today
but it will continue for a while.
