Parents of the HS Class of 2024 (Part 2)

Austin College just announced a “fill out this online form and we’ll send you a preliminary fin aid award letter” thing yesterday evening. D24 filled it out and submitted. It was super easy, basically you entered in the estimated SAI # and clicked SUBMIT. AC said they’ll respond in 5-7 business days with an estimated fin aid package.

Southwestern’s form is way WAY longer. I’m resisting filling it out right now because I think the kid will end up at AC.

We did that for one of the schools s24 applied to and received a decent package. I wish the school was more of a fit for him.

After dropping my 1st child off at college, I avoided that wing of the house so I didn’t have to think about his absence.
But a few weeks later, I happen a quick glance and…
–>–> beloved stuffie, since newborn, “Bear Bear” all tucked into DS2022’s bed.
I crumpled in a sobbing mess.

That is adorable! I was delighted that D22 brought stuffie home for Winter break - didn’t want to be apart over the break. Now D24 will likely not be bringing any stuffies with her. Hers have all been packed away for a while now. Hope she surprises me and asks to bring one.

Omg!!! My son had those same sheets when he was younger!!! I loved them!!!

My D24 has a Bear Bear too. That ancient formerly white polar bear stuffie will definitely be going to college with her. When my D21 heads back to college after her breaks she leaves all her animals arranged in her bed. It’s adorable and I’m happy she still takes the time to do it before she leaves. I have to wonder how much longer though…

D24 has a stuffed bear who she has called “B.” My mom gave it to her when she was an infant. Your kid isn’t even RELATED to me and this pic got my eyes all sweaty with respect! I’d be a blubbering mess if I saw this in her bed after we drop her off at college!

D24 got an email notification of an update on her status on Austin College’s portal. Looks like they already awarded her the extra $1000/yr grant for visiting in person after receiving her acceptance letter. So that visit was worth an extra $4k off over 4 years!

I would have just climbed into bed with Bear Bear and never come out. :pensive:

Looks like 2024’s “college oops” may be Case Western. Currently sending emails to RD kids inviting them to sign up for admitted student events (two day events, banquets, etc). And you can actually complete the sign up process.

Ha can you ask Lehigh. Syracuse or Wisconsin to make the same mistake please. I promise not to mock them

Are they admitted students or just applicants still?

RD applicants. Not (yet) admitted.

I can confirm because Droid1 applied EA, was accepted with $, and gets these same emails. Droid2 applied RD, which isn’t due out until March 16. But is getting the emails.

Can she sign up?

Yes they can complete the sign up process despite not having been admitted (officially, at least).

ETA: seems possible that they’re now flagged internally as accepted and so are now receiving those emails. Or, it could just be that the mail merge admin at Case is about to get a stern talking to!

Seems more probable. Is the Case forum all up in arms with astrology talk?

Some! But, it’s not the most heavily trafficked place in general. At least two posters however have confirmed they did not get the emails. So…something is going on.

As I noted in the Case sub, it’s not the greatest shock in the world to learn that Droid2 would be admitted, since Droid1 was admitted with $. We’ll see before long.

ETA: and one poster who did receive it was an EA deferral to RD. So, another distinct type of applicant pathway.

I agree that an acceptance is not unexpected, nor for the EA applicant since Case really likes demonstrated interest. I am sticking with this is a big Ooops!

On another note, who was out of cell service?
