Parents of the HS Class of 2024 (Part 2)

Thanks this is great. She’s Maxwell, and her advisor appt is June which is where I got confused.

Yeah they said June registration which is what seems odd. I will have her check again.

I would love to hear about booking a cello on a plane! That’s in our future.

Ha! It needs a seat and a seatbelt. Its name is NE violincello 710. Those discussions have made me feel blessed that S24 stuck with flute rather than cello!

When my younger picked flute, I admit the carrying and storage was a perk (as a former bass clarinetist myself!) - but then of course, she added sax…

My kids college is the same, an advisor does their scheduling after AP scores come out. Just Calc will matter for her as they have the upside down curriculum, starting right away with major specific courses.

Yep–the soprano clarinet case fits right in a backpack, but no, he wanted to add in bass clarinet…and of course S24 has the French horn and picked a college 1000 miles away…

has anyone heard someone say “it really doesnt matter where you go to undergrad”…do you buy this saying?

I feel like he is going to get this. He gets a little bit of refresher with the practice module, and surely with that and increased familiarity with the test format he will get the one point he needs!

Just pass is what we are going with too! Good luck to your daughter as well. Hopefully they both get the diploma.

Oh you are bringing back memories! Both my girls had to ALEKS in middle school and they hated every minute of it. Best of luck to your son as he works through it!

All y’all talking about registration, and here I am, tryyyyyiiiiiing to be patient. There was a problem with D24’s login to sign up for the advisor appointment, and she hasn’t been prioritizing it because…last crunch of classwork & exams, and first graduation (she is a May 2024 graduate for high school and associate’s). She also has a show coming up and a one-off performance, and they always run to the wire getting these things audience ready. She did contact the college and thinks she knows what to do about the registration stuff, but hasn’t actually checked to see if it will work. She already has studio classes at 8AM, how could things get worse? (don’t answer this)

I need to let her enjoy the present without constantly saying, ok but what about the next thing, and the next thing, and the next thing?! I need to let her feel the moment, and high school graduation is a big one, without pestering her about getting a summer job (she already knows what is at stake if she doesn’t).

I need to enjoy the last little bit of time I have with her before she flies. She is going to do things her own way, make mistakes along the way, and it’s going to be fine. Better than fine, to live one’s own life.

We are working on a plan for classes now. Mostly I am because she is still busy with school. But she can register next week! Too early, I think. I am looking at the flowcharts and her AP/IB credits and everything. Trying to figure it out. At least it’s engineering and I understand that!

our in-state university use ALEKS for math testing prior to incoming freshmen. :+1:

And here we are still deciding between two schools. :face_with_spiral_eyes:

Your house isn’t the only one. We are also down to two schools, but only because the housing deadline for the third was missed…
Two schools left, the one with the first choice major or the one with the much preferred campus.

The high school has a deadline Sunday to declare where final transcripts are to be sent. Since we are CA, and every public has pushed back their SIR date, I think they are going to get many changes and requests to delay.

We hope to have a decision by right after the 20th. I don’t know if I can make it :joy:

Good luck on your decision!

Zero progress on looking at housing form or first year programs. Tonight is the official senior camp out night, and unofficial senior prank night. Hopefully we: (a) get our tent back in one piece, and (b) are still going to see him walk at graduation . . . .

Oh, and apparently he took his one AP (CS) a couple days ago, and didn’t bother telling us.

Any suggestions for gifts for letter writers, guidance counselor, etc.? We’re thinking something unoriginal like a coffee mug. Plus a handwritten thank-you note.
