Not planning on buying special risers for D24’s bed since the rental car is going to be pretty packed already. We’re going to wing it under-bed storage-wise and see how it goes.
Look on the college’s housing website for information about lofting the bed. Sometimes the university does it by prior arrangement. Sometimes they provide a kit to do it. Sometimes they charge a small fee.
Agree, and some colleges require a work order to be submitted for the maintenance department to loft the bed, and some students will find their bed already lofted when they arrive. My kid is waiting to see what the set up is before deciding whether to loft or not.
Can’t for the life of me connect the pic of the bike on the Frigidaire box. What am I missing ?
Was at our local Walmart this morning getting school supplies for D26, whose school year starts on Monday, and spotted some dorm fridge/freezers for sale for $100 marked down from $169! Too bad we won’t have room in the rental car to buy it here and haul it with us to TX! That’s a really great price.
With #3, I have to admit, we are sort of winging it.
S24 finished up his last day of door to door canvassing today for his candidate (melting in the 103F real feel in NJ). Then he has a few days left of his internship before we depart for Europe, then a few days before move in.
We have the requisite room full o’stuff, and we know we should be doing more packing, but we are in denial. We’ll procrastinate and take the last few days after we get back to pack clothes and stuff.
For move-in in day, we are bringing the fridge and under bed drawers so we have to put the back seat down in the Murano even with the rocket box on the roof (for clothes). We can only fit two people, BoroMom and S24. So, it looks like I’m taking the train to DC that morning, meeting S16, and we’ll take the green line to UMd. S16 assists on all move-ins.
I already cleaned out my minivan to fold down the 3rd row. A week from today I’ll be driving home alone after moving D in. So now it’s a never ending flurry of last appointments (just back from an hair cut) and rush Amazon orders for things we are just now thinking of.
Replied to the wrong thread, but this is about the bike on the fridge box!
If you zoom in, it is hanging on a wall above the fridge, so I think it’s meant to show a compact space!
I see other things but not a fridge. It’s likely hidden below where the box is obscured. Or are those pics the inside ? But it makes sense.
I figure the size of the box shows its compactness :). Thx for explaining.
HI guys, I just got over a two-hour stomach-ache, and am back on to confirm the solution of the Mystery of the White Bicycle. I found it so endearing to read your messages that I had to explain to my family what was going on before posting to you. Then I went down to the rumpus room to look very carefully at the seemingly simple box. Snappity is dead right. The black rectangle on the bottom left is a fridge. The bicycle is on a rack, and underneath it are some rather fancy IKEA-like shelves. Presumably this is an ideal dorm room or first apartment. (I’m talking in this strange way because what I did to recover from the stomach-ache is listen to Sherlock Holmes stories on audiobooks). Thanks for giving me a laugh!
Ohhhh. That black thing in the bottom left is the fridge. Hmmm
Thanks to you and @snappity207
I was seriously confused.
An omen of things to come in a little under 3 weeks:
The bottom rung of the wooden ladder to D24’s bunk bed broke today.
We already had plans to un-bunk the beds after we drop D24 off at college.
that is funny, S24’s bed also broke yesterday. Looks like the house is ready to kick him out of the nest’
This thread is hilarious. I’m not sure what my favorite story is.
- The mystery of the bicycle
- The girl lost on the golf course
- The price of hamburgers in Switzerland
So many classics. What am I missing ?
Liquor Christmas present shopping?
S24 finally got his dorm assignment last week. He got a single room with a private bath in a dorm with mostly upperclassmen. Not sure how that happened as it was not high on his priority list but he is thrilled with having a larger room and facilities than in our small suburban home. I, on the other hand am worried that my introverted, nerdy kid will have a tougher time without a roommate. He is part of an LC and has a couple of good friends going from his high school-so hoping they can all hang out in other spaces.
Still finalizing where and when to ship the bulky items-to friends nearby or wait for the dorms to settle down. Not sure if I order items for pickup, they will be ready/ available when we go.
Has anyone used the ikea style Frakta bags as checked luggage? Not sure how durable they are to take on baggage handlers at two busy airports. Maybe if we get them wrapped?
We had our last Sat afternoon family lunch out today till he comes back for Thanksgiving. So not ready for move in next weekend…
Sending lots of good vibes for easy transitions for everyone here. xoxo
I’m wondering the same thing!
Not sure if helpful, but we want to ups store and they told us some managers are pickier and will refuse to ship as is, so we elected to get a box. I was pleasantly surprised each bag weighing 35lbs in its own box was $30 to ship on pirate ship. Obviously will vary by locations, but cheaper than I expected.
I know you asked about flying, but mentioning as may be cheaper for some versus another checked bag. I know it’s allowed on airlines, they are just so flimsy.
Roommates were matched for D24 and on paper, her new roommate looks like a great pairing! Love the same shows, similar responses for sleep and tidiness on the portal, and already sorted out the shared items. She is feeling relief after my insistence on going random, and real life might be different but at least the paper match is good. (She was regaling me with horror stories she was finding on Reddit and tiktok - so knowing she isn’t getting a 42 year old, for instance, is a relief.)
A clarification on Colby, they apparently do NOT wait for move in and will be releasing matches on Monday - and our mule friend is going to be leaving THAT DAY for a week long off-grid summer camp expedition, and is now worried she will look like a cold jerk when she doesn’t/can’t communicate for several days. I share that in case anyone is getting crickets from their future roommate, it might not be about your kid at all, but actual rare moments of purposeful disconnectedness for the other kid.
