I love this. Harmless and fun. Our seniors did something along the same lines a few years back. They filled the aisle in the building where we hold morning meeting with red solo cups full of water. Administration DID NOT find it funny.
The class the year after on the other hand, brought someone’s RV and set up a grill and flattop in the parking lot and served everyone pancakes and sausage as they came up for meeting.
I just had a sort of check-in/overview discussion with S24 about how his senior year is going, and he reminded me the national championships for his winter sport were coming up in two weeks. And I was like, no, dude, you just started your winter sport, that can’t be possible . . . .
We are planning to visit several schools on the East Coast in 2 weeks. most likely we will merch for D26. It seems to be ok to wear a college sweatshirt until junior year. after that, kids wear college sweatshirts after they commit.
I can’t relate to the no college wear until after acceptance. DD bought something from every college we visited and has items she got from thrift stores of other colleges she didn’t even consider applying to (because she liked the colors/look). She’s been accepted to 3 colleges that she does not have swag for yet and I know that she’ll be buying something when we visit between now and April. Her school does have a ‘College Day’ sometime in May where everyone wears shirts of where they are going but kids wear college gear every other day too.
I am so tensed now. I just noticed that my D24 self reported her scores but answered Test optional Y. I don’t know she made a mistake. How does this work? How do colleges look at it?
Same. Tons of kids wear UO stuff even if they aren’t applying. Mine wears her Syracuse and Georgetown gear from her summer programs and she didnt even bother applying to Georgetown
Exciting news - DD just admitted to ED2 school, Colby! She’s over the moon! (And Dad is happy to have this over with as well, though I expect I will continue to read these boards :)). Rejected from ED1 school, so this feels like an even bigger victory for her!
I see that in her Commpnapp. She self-reported in CommonApp but in the questions where they ask about Test Optional, she said she want to be considered as test optional. How does that work? Can colleges still see her score?
So it is impossible to know for sure, but usually these days the college will have some sort of internal software for processing applications, and if the applicant marks they are test optional, those fields may simply not get populated in that internal software. So there is at least a good chance the decision makers will not see scores.
Accordingly, I would try to contact the college if this is a mistake you want corrected.
No. If she said TO it just won’t “print” on the file that AOs get for review. The school might get/look/collect the data afterwards for analytics, but it wont be seen during decision making. This is what happens with the diversity info.
You should look at how each school has marked her application in their, portal, you should be able to tell if they have her test optional from the portals
