My kid’s dorm room decor will be an expression of ‘what fits into a Subaru Outback. With the seats UP.’
I just purchased DS24’s dorm room comforter for the fall from The Company Store. The color selection was somewhat lacking but the quality is great and very affordable imo.
He’ll be bringing the same bathroom caddy that he took to his couple of summers as a camp counselor because it’s in great condition and easy to clean. That has been a nice prep for the dorm move-in experience.
That’s a great school and an amazing location. Congratulations!
I need to try that with her! Good idea.
Do you have a link to the bathroom caddy?! I had so much trouble finding a good one for S23 last year and didn’t like it enough for S24 this year so we’re back to square one
If there is room, we bought this floor lamp to use as a night stand as well. S22 had his own room in a 4-person suite. https://www.amazon.com/Shelves-Display-Standing-Organizer-Nightstand/dp/B0BVFX154J/
D22 is using this for two years, and it works for her very well.
Now if you could just teach my daughter things can be worn more than once. I swear she will only wear things one time and then into the laundry they go. I mean two hours of wear does not necessarily make the thing filthy.
I guess she will have a real awakening when she is doing college laundry 24/7.
I have seen this go in different directions with our two kids. S simply did more laundry more often. D adjusted her definition of what neede to be washed and when.
I knew that many years before i had college kids, but after I was one, not a great toddler room decoration either, but i guess college kids and toddlers are similar in many ways…
S21 goes school a 2 hour flight and 11 hour drive from us. He backs up his room into a storage locker, packs a few things into the car and we are not involved (except for paying the bill)
Funny how that changed when things stopped miraculously reappearing the closet washed and folded.
When my son was a new freshman at BS, he called us from the common room. We were like why are you calling us there instead of your room. He goes my room smells. We were like why? He wasn’t sure but then he said something about empty milk cartons in his room trash. We were like dude get those out of your room that’s why it smells and open your window. He was like no they are empty.
Another thing we learned was to pack things as they are when possible. We just seran wrap (with the moving stuff) baskets and drawers. D22 did an excellent job packing things “by zone” and separately “for the summer”. Other than washing all the bedding and packing it right back up, and her main suitcase, we never unpacked for summer and moving back the second year was super easy.
For those who don’t know, those ikea style bags are your best friends.
Last summer, we did a storage unit for the summer. It was just so much easier. He had most of it packed and moved over before I even got there, which was great. He brought home bedding (different size this year), clothes, musical instruments and electronics. That was about it. Happily, we are pretty sure he gets to stay in his same apartment next year and not move out over the summer. Yay for that!
You can always buy a cleaning supply caddy!
I bought it in a store that closed recently. I checked Amazon and I don’t see that exact one, but it’s a smooth plastic one with six compartments. hth
Re shower caddy - my kids take this one to overnight camp -
“That’s gold, Jerry! Gold!”
The idea of S24 (our youngest) leaving is beginning to hit hard. I am finding it hard to be mad at him about anything even with his full blown senoritis going on. He spends most of his time at/around school and at his spring sport with friends. When he is at home napping I sometimes give him a hug and kiss on top of his head, imagining him sleeping like that in his dorm.
