I am pretty sure the zip ones were discontinued sometime last year. I hope I’m wrong, because they really are great, but if so, there are great alternatives on Amazon.
Congratulations - that’s incredible.
Roller coaster week keeps roller coastering! S24 waitlisted at Brandeis last night. At that point I officially bowed out of the prediction game…just in time for him to get accepted by Colby this afternoon, then rejected by Williams, and…accepted at Amherst(!) Still in a bit of shock here. Did not see this coming after the results over the past week. Feeling pretty thankful he had the foresight to push back when we told him maybe he should pick an easier instrument than French horn, as “French horn is magic (except when it isnt’)” is my tentative way to sum up the results thus far.
congratulations–what a great day!
Amazing!! Many congrats!!
Wowie Zowie! Very impressive! Many congrats!
D24 had 4 rejections in a row and we have two more that are not promising. I think she will commit to UNH. She accepted a place on the waitlist at UMASS Amherst and Northeastern. Happy to see the light at the end of this and feeling great about the next phase.
So excited for all of you! He has so many amazing choices!
D24 got her first outright rejection, from Swarthmore and with that we are done with the decisions this cycle.
Final tally
13/16 acceptances (9 honors, 10 with merit offers, 2 deferred, 1 rejection).
We have a few visits in next 2 weeks before we are ready for a decision. We are merit chasing so happy to have a few options to choose from.
Finally the last college decisions came in tonight. It’s been like a game of Chutes and Ladders the past few months, go up 5 steps, slide down 10 only to go back up again. No official decisions have been made but Maize and Blue might be in our future.
A little stunned tonight, as D24 was accepted at Bowdoin, Williams, and Swarthmore. Wild ride.
Wow - that’s an insane trifecta. Just wow!!! That’s really super incredibly awesome!!! Just wow!!
Congrats to your student.
I hope one of them (if interested) hits your $24K target.
Wow - that is just - all three - just wow!!! You should be stunned but proud!!
The aid from these three is astounding. All of them at roughly 1/2 our original target. I sort of thought one would come through … but the math suggests otherwise. Acceptance (and huge aid) from all three has us slackjawed.
I got these from Amazon and they are sturdier IMO.
I keep
Seeing posts about these bags. Can you explain why college kids like them so much? I’m happy to get some. I’m just curious!
There is definitely a bit of hype but they are convenient… easier to squish in a trunk than cardboard boxes (and easier to lug up stairs if needed, elevators on move in day get crowded) and cheaper than a bunch of luggage. They pack down to put under the bed to have again for moving out. Not necessary but really handy!
Thank you!!
More the parents of the kids
They are cheap and sturdy. Have handle and back straps. They fit a ton and fold down to nothing. Much better than extra suitcases or boxe for a lot of things: Clothes/shoes/toweld/bedding/pillows
Seems obvious now
OK, so S24 last night was accepted to Wake Forest and Carleton We had great visits there and so he is very excited to have them as options. He is going to have some interesting decisions to make about where to visit, although we are trying to let him just sit with all this for a while before deciding on his short list, and despite the blizzard of decisions he still has 4 left (three Ivies and Vassar).
I’ve also been reflecting a bit on his three negative decisions so far–rejected by Williams and waitlisted by Amherst and Middlebury–and there is a rather obvious pattern in that they are all three of his NESCAC LACs. Partially that just means they get a lot of high quality applications and are extremely selective. Indeed, it appears my practical philosophy of making sure he is not just applying in New England is paying off!
But I have also been thinking about how I couldn’t really say much about in what ways those particular colleges are good fits for him, beyond that he is a good student and those are (very) good schools. In fact, Middlebury had no supplement, Williams just an academic essay, and I told him after he applied I didn’t really understand how they would know whether or not they wanted to pick him (answer: they didn’t). Whereas many of the schools that admitted him are more clear fit schools to me, in that I think they track his strengths and even personality more closely. Indeed, for both Wake Forest and Carleton he had opportunities to write much more personal supplements (I think his Carleton essay in particular might well be the one where his personality was most clearly represented).
So it all sort of makes sense so far, at either a simple general level (which are most selective) or a more detailed personal one (for which was he best able to demonstrate fit). It also means he is currently going to be choosing largely between the schools I personally liked best for him!
Maybe the real theme here is the universe is taking care of ME, and he is just along for the ride . . . .
