ah, yes–it’s there; I had him check. I wish he’d give me all his logins–he didn’t notice the Amherst and Colby travel offers for a few days, either!
Ok - the convo was a little underwhelming for those of us deep into things here, however, the important point made was to not be afraid to call a favorite school and request a decision extension if still waiting for FAFSA/FA to shake out.
I understand. The rejection from our in-state school and alma mater still stings …even more that they referenced the family connection in the rejection letter. Not a hater but it will take a moment. When co-workers mention anything about college just don’t mention that school or FAFSA.
stickers!
It’s hard! My mantra on college visits had been “don’t say anything, don’t say anything.” I just talk about what we want to eat! Oberlin is an interesting school. My oldest had it in his top 4 at the end when deciding. He ultimately chose Rice. My younger one applied based on his brother’s enthusiastic recommendation. He’s still deciding.
Cal portal was legit for S21.
Thank you for the recap!! Ours actually processed for S21 and D24. Their SAI were drastically different and the input were the same. Go figure. Luckily, California extended til 5/2. She still has to add in UCLA since that was the one school she didn’t add and I don’t think she can do that for a while.
We all ready for tomorrow? Are there outstanding schools next week? I’m hoping D24 skips swim practice so she can come home to open the results. I’m hoping for an Ivy lottery ticket for D24, but I’m not going to lie. I’d be so happy with UCLA. And I kinda feel guilty over that.
Stanford just announced that RD decision will be released on Friday 4 pm. I’m not holding my breath for it. Told S24 many times it’s a super reach even with legacy status. I already received an email from the school softening the blow of eventual rejection.
I hope UMich decision is not next week. I just want this to be done.
Michigan hasn’t come out, yet?
I secretly bought D24 a piece of fun merch (giant beach towel) from the school that is her current #1, and for which she has already found a roommate. The last biggie gives the notification by the 28th–but she’s said she doesn’t really want to go there. If she gets in and changes her mind about considering it, I won’t give her the beach towel tomorrow.
I so agree with being done! The trickier thing tomorrow will be waitlists. Has gotten two waitlists so far and those were quick, easy decisions not to stay on waitlist. These coming up are the ones he may be interested in staying on WL, but i do not want him to have to spend any more time or effort (by writing LOCI, etc.) on this part of the process (ie trying for colleges) - it has taken up way too much of his senior year already!
Wrt to those 2 WLs, I did find it interesting because kid was still a little stung by WL decisions (thought among reaches, he stood a fairly good chance of being admitted to one or the other based on Naviance/knowledge of how similarly competitive kids from our school have done in past) even though he was clear that he would take one of the other options he already has over those. It made me a little sad that as much time as have spent talking about how getting in to any certain “name” is not important if that is not where you really want to be, he has not been able to completely avoid falling into that trap…
A friend bought a Wheaton hoodie* months ago when we were waiting for EA decisions, my daughter was deferred and she worried she’d jinxed it, but held on anyway, and when I texted D24s acceptance last week she was at our door in minutes to hand it to her and D24 didn’t take it off for four days. The official packet came on Monday and had stickers, which was also appreciated. (haven’t committed yet, waiting on final numbers, so they haven’t been put into play yet.)
*Said hoodie is not necessarily licensed merch, but from amazon and has Wheaton College in blue and white text - which is a genius move on the seller’s part to keep it generic enough that it works for both D24’s Wheaton (MA) and the other wheaton - which also has blue in it’s colors. She did worry for a minute she was repping the Wrong Wheaton but we searched it up and deemed it ok. LOL
On a more positive note in our place, DS has started wearing a shirt from one of the schools that recruited him for a D3 sport, so I believe we have a decision forthcoming. One more admitted student’s day to go and then he will hopefully be ready.
No indication yet when they will release RD results.
Same here. Luckily, his top 2 choices are accepted schools and he is not interested in WL schools. If he gets on WL schools this week, I suspect the final decision will take some time. We have a family friend who changed committed schools 2 times over the summer. I hope we don’t end up doing that.
OMG. Stop. Waitlist at Harvard means I don’t go all in on UCLA merch? I just want a clean break up, I swear to goodness.
I have the opposite problem, son already told me he’s not changing his college decision even if he gets Harvard or Wharton. Needless to say hubby was like “ wait you can’t turn those down, lol” my response was “don’t worry we have better chances winning powerball than him getting accepted by Harvard & Wharton ”.
If you get any waitlists that are precious enough to accept a position on, I still highly recommend you still go all in on the merch for whichever full acceptance is at the top of the heap (and UCLA is an excellent one, speaking as an alum). The odds of getting called off a waitlist, particularly at a top school, is just so remote that it’s better the fully emotionally invest in the sure thing and then consider it a great problem to have in the unlikely event you get that call or email.
