Thank you for being such a great ally!

Thank you so much. At least his ED school has been wonderful about this and his dead name was removed from everything.

For something with decently high stakes, the NMSC’s portal is kind of horrible—the whole 2002 called, they want their user interface back thing and all.

A couple of C25’s colleges have automatic scholarships that don’t differentiate between NMSF and NMF, but the best option (Nevada) does. Oh dear, yet another thing to worry about. Any way to tell for sure?

D25 accepted at Santa Clara - but she doesn’t know it yet. She is nervous and resisting checking her email or portal and wants to wait a few days. I will just have to act surprised later. (I saw the Congratulations! email in her inbox). For those of you whose kiddos also got acceptances - does the portal say anything about merit money?

For anyone with kids who applied EA to WUSTL WashU - if accepted, do they send an email? I know the decision is in the portal, but she hasn’t checked. Am I right to assume that if there is no email then it is a rejection?

Could be a WL? I do vaguely remember finding out before my son, later that same evening. During RD.

My D25’s friend got into Cornell! I am thrilled for them. It’s such a perfect fit for what they want to study. And they are just super cool and smart. Cornell is lucky to get them. I’m going to get them some swag.

I feel a little behind the curve, but D25 finally submitted what I think will be her last two applications last night. Two schools that she originally planned to be EA, but just couldn’t get the essays done in time. She had a draft Common App essay that she sat on for a LONG time because she just wasn’t sure. In the end, she took the essay in a completely different direction and I am glad she did because it is much better than the original draft. Only bummer is now that she is in the RD pool she will have to wait longer for her decisions.

From what I understand, Santa Clara is expected to release merit awards two weeks after acceptances. At least for the ED/EA pools.

Congratulations on the acceptance!!

I don’t know that there is necessarily an advantage in terms of chances of getting in EA v RD. It sounds like she has a better chances of standing out with her revised essay. I wouldn’t worry too much about it. Here’s hoping she has lots of acceptances and merit aid offers to sort through.

I am so sorry. that is awful. I have noticed (all, or nearly all) asked this question clearly (legal vs. preferred) it shows such lack of care to not be using it…(e.g. too lazy to change templates and where auto-fill stuff comes from).

The NMSC portal was awful. Those poorly formatted text boxes, etc. 2002 def wants their user interface back! And like you said, no way to know for sure they’ve received the confirmatory score.

There were other schools with similarly awful portal/applications but I feel like NMSC could do better

My kid is hearing from Bowdoin tonight. I know they will be happy anywhere they go and there are so many great places. I’m really worried a negative result (the odds aren’t in anyone’s favor) will crush their spirit and finishing up the last RD apps will be an uphill battle. I guess I’m worried it will be more than an ego ding or disappointment and more something that could stop them in their tracks. Has anyone dealt with this?

Despite rolling, it took my DS awhile to hit submit on his Pitt application. His acceptance to Dietrich came yesterday evening with a surprise guaranteed admission to their graduate school of Ed for a MAT!!

It was a surreal parenting moment last night looking back on a considerable amount of adversity he’s faced in school. It took him a long time to find his social groove and self confidence. He navigated some out of the ordinary medical challenges on top of a late junior year ADHD diagnosis. For a kid who has never been an alpha anything, just a solid fly under the radar type student, this acceptance last night felt amazing

We’ve gone through this twice. S24 was very invested in his top school and it was particularly hard, but they were definitely not alone and that helped.

It made for a VERY busy holiday break, but we just let them absorb, validated that it was ok to be feeling sad while recognizing they did the things they could control so it was really not about them, and let them focus on finishing the semester. By the time break came they had processed and were ready to do the work.

I should say, our school is pretty good about setting the tone and reminding the kids that results are not a measure of who they are and also while some get good news most don’t and the kids all take that to heart and are supportive and kind of each other.

This is lovely advice, thank you.

This is so encouraging. I feel the same for my DD who faced so many challenges in high school including adjusting to ADHD meds that took way longer than expected. I am hoping for a similar surreal parenting moment…but if it doesn’t come, I want to be okay with that too!

My kid is waiting on Bowdoin too. I’m very nervous!

thank you!

Me too. C25 is still searching for the right combo of meds and strategies to deal with a late ADHD diagnosis, depression, and anxiety. It can be hard to remember that this process is just that, a process. No miracle cures here, I’m afraid. Best wishes to your daughter and family.

Well, it doesn’t appear to be whooping cough… just got back from the doctors and I tested positive for RSV. We went ahead and got a chest xray too, to make sure I don’t ALSO have pneumonia, and did a blood draw to check my white blood cell count (no idea why or what that’s supposed to tell us).

I thought only infants and really old people got RSV. I’m 49, that is not really old. I mean, sometimes I * FEEL * really old, but I’m not.

They prescribed some kind of mega cough suppressant, so maybe I’ll be able to get to sleep better. But other than that, seems like there’s not a whole lot to do. I guess at least it’s not whooping cough? (Although who knows, maybe that’s what the CBC was for?)
