When was the message dated?
Was it not there before? I feel like this is a standard message that appears once you have the portal. My guess is the deadline was Dec 1st, as suggested. If decisions are coming out in December, it seems way too late to switch. They wouldn’t have reviewed an RD file at all at this point.
I doubt there is any harm in calling admissions to ask if it is still possible to make the change. If they say yes, she can email the request.
She submitted the app on Thursday. The message appeared when she first got access and logged into her portal yesterday. I agree that it’s generic, but a little ambiguous. This is the first year this school has offered an EA option.
My usual advice to her for these types of things (usually related to asking a teacher for an extension on an assignment, etc.)is that it doesn’t hurt to ask and the worst they can say is no.
I think it absolutely doesn’t hurt to ask!
Totally agree. It never hurts to ask.
Hope you are on to bigger and better things!
I agree with you. Specially since EA is new.
All applications have been submitted.
Accepted to Ursinus with, I think, max merit. I’m still researching it, but I think it’s my least favorite (he really enjoyed a chat with the rep at a CTCL fair, which is why he applied).
for signs of bacterial infection caused at the same time or after a viral infection, in which case they’d prescribe antibiotics
Thank you! White blood cell count looks fine, one thing showed up well lower than the average range and dr google tells me that particular result usually means the person is anemic. We’ll see what the doctor says when they interpret that, and clearly that’s not what’s making me cough, but I guess I could up my iron content anyway.
Dr. Google is a dangerous thing. He ALWAYS makes me think I’m dying.
Dr google told me that this level of anemia could contribute to potentially making me tired… and I was all Dear Dr Google - I have been tired for the 20 years my oldest child has been alive. I do not think this is news.
I am sincerely trying to avoid any political discussion, but wanted to ask you all if there are any vaccinations you would recommend our kids get sooner vs later, in case the vaccine schedule changes. I’m thinking I might have D25 get her meningococcal (MenACWY) one. Any others?
Assuming she’s otherwise up to date, I think just the two meningitis vaccines. (Plus annual flu & covid.)
That’s the most important one, a lot of schools require it. My daughter’s school required a tb test too so you may want to do that. I think anything else is up to you.
Agree on the meningitis vaccine and probably don’t need more as long as she’s up to date.
In news of the random and weird - my older son competed on a D3 team in college. In order to meet the requirements for the NCAA physical, he had to have a sickle cell test done since he hadn’t when he was a baby. We are white, and since that’s something predominantly inherited in african american populations, it wasn’t a test they did when he was a baby. Well, I gather now that all babies are tested for sickle cell. Anyhoo, he couldn’t compete until he had it done. So if you have a child who may be competing in a regulated sport, just know in advance that you might need to get a blood draw done for this. (I mean, it’s not a big deal or hard, it was just surprising and we found out sort of last minute that it was necessary and had to hustle to get it done.)
So, my kid did not get into their ED1 school. They are debating applying ED2 to their #2 school, which was ALMOST their #1 (and is a slightly easier admit, although still a reach). I love #2 school for them and think it’s a better match, but I am also worried about them putting themselves out there for another reach school and having their heart broken AGAIN. But I think it is unlikely they will get in RD. Thoughts?
If it’s a “meets need” school and you have need according to their NPC then 100% do the ED2.
I agree ED2 is the way to go if affordable. In the mean time you can remind him that “its not you, its them,” and encourage him to stay open minded.
In a practical sense, ED2 denial is hard, but doesn’t impact his other apps. He will have time to be disappointed and then get excited again if that the way it goes.
Schools that have ED2 really care about yield and it does impact outcome.
I think you should say to him exactly what you said to us—you’re worried about him feeling brokenhearted, but you think the ED 2 is an important boost. I think he should make the final call—and you’re there to support him.
