Well that’s the end of the state that tends to have more of the summer camps, so I think it’s probably really beautiful there too. ![]()
Wow – big move! It’s funny, I know several folks who packed up and moved out of state after becoming empty nesters.
My sum knowledge of West Virginia comes from the lyrics of Country Roads, lol – but from that, I imagine it’s beautiful.
Wishing you guys a smooth transition and good luck for all the adventures ahead!
Now “Country Roads” is playing in my mind. Seriously though, beautiful area of the country, and a lower cost of living! It’s going to be great. Congrats!
As someone who has followed her husband around the country for his career, you got this! A new adventure is good for us, especially at this stage in our lives.
S25 is back on campus and started classes today. He had a great first class in a high level major poli sci and it ended up going great, liking the prof, sharing a joke with him, asking questions etc. he also found out today that he gets paid for being chair of the ways and means committee of SGA! Who knew? Lol
The last week of break he had a bit of an internal crisis trying to figure out if he wanted to change majors or double major and whether he wanted business degree or go to law grad (or both?).
Finally, after staying up ALL night (literally was in kitchen at 6am cooking breakfast) and a thousand discussions with us and friends he realized he had no idea, but that he wanted to keep options open which led to a math class change today and a renewed desire to transfer to a more ‘target’ school. (Basically top 25) He’s currently in a high acceptance rate public state school where he’s not finding people with his drive or passion for success.
That led to a money discussion cause he’s in a school that is comparatively very cheap. We’re all thinking he has a better shot transferring junior year so his HS grades aren’t as much of a factor plus it’s one less year of a much higher tuition. But He’s set on shooting his shot even knowing the stakes and low acceptance rates, so he can go ahead and get where he’s going. So we’re trying to be supportive but realistic with him too.
When it was all about law school he was almost ready to stay and try for high level grad but is now thinking no grad with bus/econ-Poli sci double major and needing some name recognition to get where he wants to go in the job market (and not really knowing what that is yet but thinking investments/banks/wealth mgmt/mergers/acquisitions? Who knows.)
anywho, we’ll see where that all goes but seems we’re in for another app cycle in the coming months for at least a few schools. I was hoping that stress was over. Oh well.
Happy FDOC to everyone!
S25 drove back yesterday and started school today. He managed to lock himself out of his room (he has a single) for the fourth time this year. ![]()
I thought we had devised a plan to prevent that from happening, but alas. The school charges $20 every time they need to come let him back in.
Kid is smart, though – I just got a text that said, “Flip. Bonehead mistakes have been made.”
He knows I would read that and worry, and then be relieved that it was just a $20 lockout. ![]()
The car thing is tough. My son is saying he will need a car this summer and next year as well. Of course he has no money since he pissed away roughly $2500 he had saved up and from graduation gifts, already. You also can’t get much of a reliable car for $5k or less any more. I’m not sure if I let him figure it out on his own, buy a junker, learn an important lesson – or help him buy a cheap but reliable less old car that will likely run $15k or so. I often feel many of his struggles today are due, in part, from me helping him to much such they he never had to figure it out on his own.
However, he is getting along at Miami very well. Maybe too well socially. He is a very quiet introvert so I’m very happy he made friends, but perhaps if he didn’t party so much he would not have received a “B” in Bio.
