Parents of the HS Class of 2026

Good point. But having to take micro & macro econ + 2 accounting classes for the major, along with the travel stuff, sways it into the ‘no’ category. Usually our high school has 1 kid who attends UAH. There’s usually also 1 person who chooses to attend UT-Dallas. UAH’s OOS merit scholarships make it pretty attractive.

This is so beautiful. Thank you for sharing. It’s pretty wonderful watching them grow into their own unique people isn’t it? She sounds like a wonderful person.

Best of luck! She sounds pretty awesome!

My daughter is doing some optional interviews at her EA schools. She didn’t realize the person she was speaking to this morning was the person reviewing her application! I suppose it was good because she was very relaxed! It sounds like it went well -and I think it was a good idea for her to do the interview. It allowed her to expand on some of her interesting ECs. Anyone else’s kid doing the optional interviews?

It is great seeing them grow up and yes, I think she is one of a kind special person.

My kid is doing optional interviews too and also had one with the person who will be reviewing her application. Others have been students or alums.

Wish your daughter best of luck too!

My kid definitely did an optional interview. She was nervous at first but I told her that the college basically uses the interview as a way to learn more about you.

My kid did one optional interview. She was nervous but I told her to think of it as practice for the future. It was a current student at the university.

If any of her other schools offer them, I am not aware but would have encouraged it if they do.

This made me weepy. She sounds like someone any college would be incredibly lucky to have.

Thank you. I know she’ll end up somewhere great for her. She has done such a good job with her list.

I have been working like crazy lately, so admittedly skimmed the last few hundred posts (I can’t keep up with you all!). Congrats and good luck to all of our kids as we near the dreaded November 1 deadline.

My D submitted her last EA application tonight, looked at her school list, and declared: I don’t like any of these schools. Umm, what?!? I gently probed and it seems there are things she likes about each school, but not a perfect combination. I am not sure what to do with that… We called it a night and headed to bed.

Tomorrow after school we fly to Pitt for an admitted student event on Saturday. (It will be her second visit.) Pitt Honors acceptance came tonight, which was nice timing. Last weekend we toured Case Western. I think we need a break with college stuff after this weekend!

Quite possibly just all the stress catching up to her now that the apps are in? I’m not sure any school is ever a perfect combination for anyone, and it’s a big decision, so maybe that’s also weighing on her. Hopefully she will get excited again after more visits! What did she think of Case?

This was so lovely to read. May we all be so deeply proud and in awe of our kiddos and their unique gifts!

Your daughter sounds like the very best kind of student – unequivocally herself.

Sounds like it went great!

D26 hasn’t yet had the opportunity to interview, but D22 did several. And the one at the school where she landed was supposed to be with an alum, but there was a last minute conflict, so an AO ended up interviewing her instead. And then I think she asked some very specific questions that the interviewer seemed to like – and I can’t help but think that tipped the scale in her favor.

Mine submitted the EA apps the other night, now it’s on to some scholarship applications for those, plus he has 3RD apps to get in. One says due 1/2 but to apply by 12/1 for the best merit. I’m just trying to make sure nothing slips through the cracks and not totally hound him at the same time.

I feel like so many feel like that after they hit submit and question everything. Kind of reminds me of trying to find the perfect wedding dress, or house, or stroller (am I the only one who bought way too many b/c no one stroller was perfect)? Hopefully she has a great admitted students day and starts to get excited. They usually really roll out the red carpet for kids on those types of visits. Hugs to you both.

Wow this group is getting prolific!!

Haven’t caught up on everyone’s posts and updates, but wanted to share that my kiddo has decided to kick several apps to RD because she’s just over it right now.

She submitted her ED and 6 other apps. She still has 2 to go in the near term (one with supplementals that she still needs to finish, which is due Nov 5; another doesn’t have supps but she hasn’t gotten around to submitting it yet which is due Nov 15).

The other 3 on her list…. She announced to me last night that her plan is to wait and see what she learns in December and then decide whether to bother. I’m good with the plan, and she sounded like relief had washed over her at the prospect of not worrying about college apps anymore until the December news comes in.

So now we wait!

Just sharing something nice after my long post yesterday. A colleague here (our security guy) and I were chatting the other day and he asked how it is that I can have an office with no window and not go crazy. I told him it is the one thing I hate about my space but it is what it is. Well I came into work just now and he bought me a canvas print of a photo of the beach as if looking out through a window. I almost cried it was so thoughtful. I LOVE the beach and this just really touched me. :beating_heart:

My D26 also just submitted her ED last night! It was the art portfolio that took until the last minute, too. I’d wanted her to apply to the Brown/RISD program but that’s my dream, not hers. She visited it and loved both schools but not the combined program. Meanwhile, I wanted a time machine and a personal do-over but I kept quiet as it is her choice. I think she would have had a shot of getting in (though of course it is a reach), but I will never know. (The endless letting go!!!) Her top choice is WashU because they have an art school with a concentration in exactly the kind of art she loves–children’s book illustration and comics. And she can double major in biology, her other interest. If she gets in, I will be so happy for her and also my heart will break. I can’t imagine her so far away. After she hit “submit” last night I was picking up the house and paused by a framed picture of her at 9 months old. Not my best idea! :smiling_face_with_tear: Good luck to your D26. It sounds to me like Brown would be very lucky to have her. In a couple of weeks, I’ll turn to the battle of getting my D26 to add more schools to her list. Guess how many, total, is on it right now? FOUR. Yep. She’s stubborn. One is probably a safety, but I’ll thoroughly investigate that in a week once I’ve recovered from the ED stress.
