Parents of the HS Class of 2026

Won’t work at our school. You have to specify which college and they pick up date from the Common App.

Our teachers ask for the earliest date they need the letter by.

Same, but they ask for the name of the college with that deadline :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

When kids were young, after trick or treating they poured all their candy on the dining room table and decided to set up shop.

D24 priced her candy at $.50 a piece. D26 priced her candy at $.25

Seeing she was getting undercut on price, D24 puts up a sign: “Free wi-fi, exact change offered”.

Just read that one of D26’s schools is giving away a free bike to all kids admitted ED in addition to housing priority. Door prizes for college admissions is wild.

I imagine the cost of the bike is negligible compared to the cost of the college education, but still… yeah, it will be an incentive.

Not everyone will be interested in a bike. They should give a choice between a bike and a dorm fridge/microwave unit! :joy:

It looks like all our young adults are rising to the occasion and getting those apps in! My D26 got her first official acceptance to her rolling safety school this week :white_check_mark: finished her 3 EA apps :white_check_mark: finally got finished those pesky supplements she was over thinking for her one REA app on Tuesday :white_check_mark:. She might be done, but she might apply to two super reach schools over Thanksgiving or Christmas break.

On the subject of cute memories of our kids:

My daughters were big time My Little Pony people. to the point where we’d be at swim meets and they’d bring a whole bunch of MLPs with them and got all the other little girls on our swim team to play MLP for hours while waiting for their next heat to come up.

When D26 was in kindergarten, I picked her up from school and she was very excited about something new that she’d learned that day. She said, “Mama, you know what Mrs. teacher’s_name said today? I learned what the 3 dots are that people put sometimes at the end of a sentence. Wait for it…wait for it…”

I was a little slow that day and said, “Well, what does it mean?”

She said, “You’re silly, Mama. I just told you! It means ‘wait for it!’” LOL.

And she was totally right.

ok 1 more:
my kids’ birthdays are 2 wk apart. When D24 was young (like 2 yr old), she got sick with this horrible stomach virus. Had to take her to the local hospital. Waited 6 hr in the waiting room for her to be seen by a provider. When Dr finally evaluated her, I got scolded for ‘waiting too long to bring her in.’ Um no, we’ve been here for 6 hr and your front desk person kept telling us to wait, all while my daughter was getting worse and worse. Well, D24 was sick enough that she had to be taken by ambulance to a larger area hospital better equipped for more severe pediatric cases. D24 had to stay in the hospital for 3 days.

The children’s wing of that hospital, on one of the days she was there, brought in a therapy horse. A pony. D24 got to ride on the pony at the hospital. It was awesome. The owner of the pony ran a local non-profit and she had a few ‘therapy ponies’ which she took regularly to children’s wards of the 2 big area hospitals and to nursing homes. turns out, they did birthday parties, too.

Hot diggity. Well, for $250 I got about an hour and a half of pony rides for D24, D26, and all of their little friends in our backyard for their next birthday. We did it again the year after that. Each kid got a couple of rides. D24 led the pony by its reins every time another kid was in the saddle. At the end of the pony rides, the woman running the non-profit org. got out paints and a bunch of paint brushes and ALL the little kids painted the pony for about 10 minutes.

It. Was. Awesome. D24 still mentions it once in awhile.

There was this other time where instead of a birthday party at some expensive place near home (there’s certain birthday party venues that were always popular for kids’ b-day parties and my kids have summer birthdays, so hardly anybody would ever actually GO to their birthday parties…it was frustrating), we took the girls to Disneyland for just ONE day (that’s all we could afford at the time). The prior Christmas, my sister gave my kids both Elsa dresses. They wore the Elsa dresses that day to Disneyland. We got there for rope drop (before park opening) and stayed until just before the park closed (we left at 11:45 pm). Rode 11 rides before lunch. Rode Pirates of the Caribbean as a walk-on 3 times in a row while Fantasmic was going on later that night. While we were speed walking back to the Pirates of the Caribbean entrance for ride #2, D26 said, “THIS IS THE BEST DAY EVER!”

Same here, teachers go by Common App. Just checked, still not in. Fingers crossed for some leniency from the schools.

It would be due end of day with a 1 Nov deadline, correct?

D26’s college counselors sent a very helpful message this week, so I am passing along key info in case helpful. They said that they are sending everything on time and not to worry. They explained that there is often a delay in colleges processing the documents from when they send them. That kids can see on their platform when the docs are sent (SCOIR), but then will be a delay often of days or even weeks before show as processed in the portal. They also noted that the Nov 1 deadline is for application at most schools and not the docs. Many have doc deadline at least a week later. And that they are meeting all those deadlines. Thought I’d share.

D26 has one more app due Monday. So where is she? At the mall with a friend, lol. And tomorrow she has a concert she’s performing in. Ah well. We shall see!

Yes, technically due tonight at 11:59 pm, so technically not late…yet. Just were requested months back. I wish they would’ve told him no if they didn’t wish to write them. S26, who doesn’t get stressed about much, is pretty unhappy.

Thank you, this is reassuring. S26’s school uses Schoollinks (vs. SCOIR or Naviance), so we have been checking in there just to see if they were uploaded, but still “In progress.” Thankfully, some of the schools accepted the counselor rec instead of a teacher rec, so they are at least considered “complete.”

Appreciate everyone’s kindness and letting us vent!

D26 got an email from UT-San Antonio asking her to set up her login for their application portal. Portal says the LOR got submitted but they haven’t received her HS transcript yet. Probably same run around she’s getting from 2 other schools. UTSA is rolling admissions so there’s not as much urgency on my kid’s part for this school. They’ll get the transcript through SCOIR eventually.

It seems a lot of teachers submit last minute despite being asked months in advance…it’s stressful. Hoping it’s done tonight.
