Woohoo – that sounds wonderful! Huge congrats to your daughter! I’ve heard such good things about UDel – in fact, my D22 has it on her grad school list to apply.

I know a freshman at Delaware right now who did high-level competitive cheer in high school – but I don’t know if she’s cheering at college.

Ahem, I daresay Raleigh-Durham has nothing on the good people here in Atlanta when it comes to Snowmeggedon. (I direct your attention to Jan 28, 2014.)

My only beef with RDU is the expensive parking. I once dropped my D26 at NC State’s summer design program, then flew to visit my folks in south Florida, leaving my car at the airport. Somehow I didn’t realize how crazy expensive it was to park in covered parking for the week.

That might have been user error though, lol.

What is she planning to go to grad school for? I know you’ve mentioned it before but I have short term memory loss.

Speech-language pathology!

She doesn’t have a background in communication disorders (she’s studying linguistics), so she needs about a year of leveling courses/prerequisites – so she’s only applying to programs that offer a three-year track that incorporates these courses. Most programs don’t offer that, but UDel is one that does.

Congratulations!!! That is wonderful!! <3

I can’t believe how much I’ve missed since the weekend! I can’t keep up with you all!

Update on S26’s 1st quarter grades, that C+! He advocated for himself and sent an email to his AP Stats teacher basically saying, had he known he was just 1 point away from a B, he would do anything to get that B which he never got the chance to do because his teacher uploaded his last 2 grades right before the report card deadline. She said to see her in class about his concern - well can you believe that he forgot to see her after class?!! :woman_facepalming: As he was composing yet another email to apologize for forgetting, he decided to check his report card grades online and lo and behold, she gave him the B! S26 was so relieved!! He decided he’s going to chat with her in person tomorrow. Happy kid here now!

S26 submitted 2 RD apps yesterday! Hooray!! lol. But he’s got some essays he has to write for one school to be considered for 2 scholarships he’s eligible for, so he’s not completely done with that 1 RD school yet. Oy vey!

He found out two days ago that he’s been invited to the Honors Program for the safety school he was recently accepted to AND they threw another $2,000 at him so the total merit/grant is now $52,500, bringing the total COA to even lower than our in-state public schools here. How can we say no to that?!! We are attending their Admitted Students Day in about a week and a half and take a deep dive into their creative writing program, school vibe, and just see if it’s a good fit for S26.

Meanwhile S26 is having marching band withdrawals. He’s looking forward to the Holiday Parade that the marching band will be participating in so that’s good.

Anyways, thanks for letting me share! S26 is inching closer (slowly) to getting the rest of his RD apps done! Almost there! Cannot wait! lol!

Okay, so after saying we couldn’t make it to any of the longer admitted student days at Pitt, we looked again – and I think they added some? Figured out that we can make Sat, Feb 21 work. We’ll have to fly in very late the night before because D26 won’t be done with rehearsal until 6 p.m.

BUT she registered, I found reasonable flights for that weekend, booked a hotel, and we’re all set. So, yay, looking forward to it! I really think she’s going to love the city.

Meanwhile, we watched an info session tonight on the performing arts scholar program at RIT – and oh my goodness, there are SO many things that appeal to D26.

I think if she’s lucky enough to get into the four schools at the top of her list, she’s going to have a really hard time choosing. Too bad you can only go to one, lol!

This exact thing happened to D26 with her first quarter grades. Grades were due tonight and her EnvSci teacher still hadn’t posted over half of the assignments. About 8 pm, the final grade popped up and it was 7 points lower than it had been because D26 was missing two assignments. On one hand, I was so annoyed because if the teacher had put them in last week, she could have done them. BUT on the other hand, she should have turned them in when they were due- it shouldn’t have mattered. So in the end, she’s not saying anything and just taking the B+; she has plenty of time to bring it up to an A. Lesson learned (I hope!).

That’s fabulous news about the B!!

That’s awesome news!! Congrats!

Love seeing the fantastic offers from safety schools turning them into really great options for people. I’m looking forward to D26 getting her first acceptance somewhere, hopefully by mid-December.

S26’s R2 grades went on the books today and he has all As. He was sweating out an AP Chem test grade that hadn’t been posted and he got a 93, which took his 89 overall grade to a 91. Whew! His AP Chem teacher seemed to be in a better mood today so I’m hoping that trend continues…

We are awaiting a Pitt decision, too. He submitted last week, so based on what I’m seeing in the Pitt thread, we could get an answer as soon as next week or it could be weeks more. This thread and the Pitt thread have me excited to visit this school! So much positive energy for Pitt!

Congrats!!! We loved U Del. It’s #2 after Pitt. He’s in both (still need to hear about honors at Del) and need to see financiaL aid for both too. Great news for you!!!

Maybe I am just cranky this morning but I have somehow ended up on a bunch of college email lists, and the constant imploring to get my kid to apply ED to a school he has never been to or even opened an email for is so irritating.

I was just thinking the same thing this morning! We have never shown one ounce of interest in your school, why on earth fo you think we would apply ED??

The ones that are like “we’ve extended our ED deadline for you” are my favorite. Like why would you think my kid would rush to apply ED to this school she has never heard of or shown any interest in?

This is one reason I LIKE Miami Ohio! D26 can drive home (or we could drive there). It’s not super quick but doable in one day -and I have family that is even closer and could get there in four hours.

But agreed - Miami (Ohio) NOT close to the airport at all -and there is no convenient airport to campus shuttle that goes on regular basis. ETA: I did not see the link above!

My daughter really loves Scripps (in CA) -but honestly, if she were to get in (it’s a reach) - I don’t know how she gets from the airport to the campus! But as you say -they all figure it out.

Congratulations to D26!!! That’s really awesome.

Yay! That’s awesome!!! Congratulations!
