If you can get flights to Ontario (CA not Canada!!) it’s very close.
You can use the parking lots, rather than the parking structure. They are cheaper - but then you will need to catch the shuttle bus to/from the terminals as you really can’t walk it.
Also, even though they just completed a Terminal 1 revamp project a couple years ago, I understand they are doing a Terminal 2 expansion and ground transportation changes - and have a target completion date of “2029”… which for those of you not from the South and used to our slow Southern Drawl what that technically means is you need to double the time. So instead of 4 years it will be 8…
I’m laughing at the Canada part - I appreciate knowing there is a close airport!
ETA: Not a direct flight but she can get there through Denver! Thanks.
D26 is getting a million such emails – and thus the actual emails she needs to see are buried in there somewhere, which is so annoying – but the only ones I’m getting are schools where we’ve toured, but she decided not to apply. And one more school where we were booked for a tour but had to cancel because of a conflict.
Three schools in particular seem all kinds of indignant that she hasn’t applied. ![]()
We have been unsubscribing (as much as possible) from all emails that originate from a school that didn’t make the final application list. Sometimes it is easy (through the built in “unsubscribe” button on Mac Mail) and sometimes it means clicking on the unsubscribe link at the bottom of the email itself. It has cleaned up the college app email account quite a bit the last couple of weeks.
We feel you here! “But you visited…”
Scripps is in my D26’s top five and somewhere I’d be excited if she ended up. Ontario airport is a solid smaller airport. So easy to get to the Claremont campuses from there.
Also, at least from NorCal, it’s often cheaper to fly into.
This morning started out super stressful…had my annual MRI to check for pancreatic cancer (I have the ATM gene mutation; it caused breast cancer 6 yr ago; had double mastectomy & because of the gene mutation I now get annual abdominal MRIs to check for pancreatic cancer since ATM mutation causes elevated risk + my mom died of pancreatic cancer when D26 was 2. 2 yr ago, I had a colonoscopy + endoscopic ultrasound of my pancreas performed by a ‘interventional gastroenterologist’ at the cancer center)…and the needle sticks for the blood draw & IV contrast hurt like a mother trucker…and I’m going to be a nervous wreck until Monday when I meet w/the gastrointestinal PA at the cancer center to review my test results. Could feel the IV in my arm the entire time. Every time I moved, it hurt. Ironically, being inside the MRI tube was not a big deal.
Anyway…
Have GOOD news to report. D26 got accepted to University of the Incarnate Word today! Don’t know what merit scholarship $$ she was awarded. We do still need to submit FAFSA and I don’t know if their merit $$ is dependent on FAFSA submission or not.
But it’s nice to have another YES!
Gonna celebrate by getting take out Chinese food for dinner because Mama ain’t cookin’ tonight! ![]()
Next college decision for D26 coming out will be 12/15 and then 1/15 from U of A.
Congratulations to your daughter!!
I am sorry for all that you have been through and have to go through. I will be thinking of you that all is good news on Monday.
I can’t shout from the rooftops on Facebook! Because it would be bragging, and my daughter would murder me. But she got accepted to university of Maine at Farmington! She was invited to the honors college, was given a merit scholarship of 3000 a year which is the highest you can get, and she got a handwritten letter from the admissions Director. I’ve never seen that. It was personal to her! It was about her essay and encouraging her to consider a creative writing for a major or minor!
It is her number two pick , we will hear from her number one pick in about a month! She’s very excited that this is her safety and something to fall back on and very enticing. We are super proud!! I honestly do not think she will get into Colby so at this point my brain has this as where she will end up and I am extraordinarily pumped at the cost and that they obviously want her. That’s such a good feeling. Of course, if she gets into Colby that’s where she will go, but such good news today!
That’s awesome! Congratulations to your daughter!
Congratulations to your daughter on another acceptance! And hugs to you for all you have been through.
Sending thoughts of good health your way. Congrats to our daughter!
That’s amazing, congratulations!!
Awesome! Congrats to your daughter.
And I hope you get good news at your appointment on Monday.
That’s wonderful news! A hand written letter? NICE!
S26 randomly checked Oregon State portal today and got a very good surprise. He got WUE scholarship of $18000. That brings the COA pretty close to UC’s.
Congrats to your D and I hope that you get good news on Monday!
Awesome! 1 of D24’s classmates is attending Oregon State…the student really likes it there.
