Well, she only got into half of those, LOL, so that helped narrow it down – it came to Rice or Emory for her, and she dragged it out and told us she was waffling, but she really wanted to go to Rice.
She just needed to find a little confidence – because Emory is a 45-minute drive from us, whereas Rice is a two-hour flight. We did everything we could to convince her to take the leap, and she did.
We’d already visited every school on her list (except Brown, but she didn’t get in so it didn’t matter) – so that helped a lot.
Just wanted to share that D26 was accepted into Boston College today! Our D24 is at Holy Cross, so this is an amazing blessing to have them so close to each other, especially since we live so, so, so far away in Seoul.
With the time change, it meant the announcement that the decision was ready happened right as D26 was going into a history exam. Slightly distracting, I’m afraid. Afterward, she texted me that she just couldn’t wait until after school to open the portal with her dad and me and was having a ‘lowkey panic attack.’ Ha! I jumped in a taxi and got there as fast as I could. I had purchased a BC hoodie and safely hid it, only to tuck it into my bag as I dashed out the door. (My husband didn’t even know about the sweatshirt and is convinced I am totally crazy.) When we saw the confetti on the screen, I pulled out the hoodie, and she proudly changed! All tears and hugs and smiles! Her friends were so happy for her and a couple even cried…
Enough! Thank you for letting me lurk here and for being a really positive, supportive group of parents. You are all such good mamas and dads. Truly.
This is so great – huge congrats to your D26! I can just picture the scene from the vivid picture you painted. Awesome.
And what a blessing, indeed, to have your girls be so close! I’m so happy for your family.
(Our video of D22 opening the portal and seeing the confetti of the school where she ultimately landed is my favorite thing ever, so I totally get it!)
My daughter only applied to one school RD (and only because they didn’t have EA) and she has already ruled it out because “no way I’m going to wait that long”. This is 100% my DNA talking! I really couldn’t argue that point because I would feel the exact same.
Good luck to all with upcoming ED or EA notifications…nerve wracking and exciting at the same time.
Definitely feel like the odd one out with all the EA discussions. D26 will get one more decision EA, which is almost surely a deny or defer. Then 3 more should be in January. The remaining 5-7 are RD. She got into two rolling admissions schools, so I guess that’s good. But she doesn’t care a lick to actually look at those schools in any detail. Just happy to wait until it’s all over. She’s cool as a cucumber over here.
She has 3 to 5 applications to still work on for RD. She’s decided she’s going to wait until the semester is done and work on them over Christmas break. She’d rather prioritize schoolwork and her extracurriculars. She doesn’t seem bothered by waiting to work on the apps since we decided not to travel anywhere this year. She’s happy to just work on them over that break. No rush!
