Recording things would be a hard no for my daughter. Not her style. We haven’t even been in the room when she’s received any of her decisions so far - one she opened in school during senior seminar when they were talking about applications (very early rolling acceptance - she was the first person from her HS accepted anywhere which was pretty exciting), one she opened during a break at cheer practice, and the other two she opened while she was out. She did let us know pretty quickly afterwards.
Congratulations to the two who have recently posted Penn State acceptances! And to anyone else with an acceptance I may have missed. I can’t keep up with the pace lately!
We are in the same boat as you. D26 checks by herself and then lets us know. There is no way she would let anyone record it, us, friends, or anyone else.
She is very much a Luddite for her generation though. Zero social media (unless you count YouTube, which I don’t). No insta, no TikTok, none of them. And she doesn’t video herself doing anything really. She lives mostly IRL, so I am not surprised.
Mine is so chill that even if she let me record (which she never would), it would be the worst college decision video ever – like no reaction whatsoever
This would be a great YouTube skit. Kid has 10 recorded with no reaction from the kid. Parents going nuts or breaking down crying and screaming “Whyyy!?!?!” In the background. Kid walks off with zero expression.
D26 just asked if she can download Instagram so that she could follow one of her friends that posts pictures of her art. At her ripe old age of 17.5, I said “obviously you can, because in 6 months I couldn’t stop you anyway!” But I am glad she didn’t have it through most of high school!
When D19 got ED decision she waited to come home from school and open with me, but no video. Only 2 decisions so far but C26 has just opened them when they got the email - I was actually out of town when they got the Pitt email. C26 has social media but it’s all centered around fandom /anime stuff - nothing personal, the closest being some photos in cosplay. Definitely no vacation or friend pics or videos opening decisions!!
D26 also hates to see herself on camera so no filming allowed! She wants to be with me when we open decision emails, but she did open two yesterday while she was in school. I think when the big one she’s waiting for comes in, she’ll wait for me.
That would be us. S26 hates to be on camera and he is generally unemotional about the college process (in all fairness, he only has one competitive school and one competitive cohort program on the list, all others we knew he would be accepted), so definitely no videos in our house. I still don’t know if he has opened the LSU decision email yet …..
In other questions, is anyone here planning to buy an ad in their student’s yearbook? We just got the notice about it along with prices. I recall when I was in high school, it was a pretty big deal to do something. I pushed my folks to get the cheapest one, and my parents scoffed. Keeping up with the Joneses and all that.
Is buying an ad still a thing? I’ll also admit that on D26s instructions, she absolutely did NOT want any of the previous years ones. But she does want her senior one.
I just finished one for D26 a couple of days ago! Thankfully, D26’s high school only allows parents to purchase the smallest size, but it was still very pricey. But when you’ve already done them for the older sibs, it’s kinda required
I’m confident that’s why our high school only allows parents to purchase the smallest one (I think it was the 1/8 size). You are not even allowed to select the largest options on Josten’s website.
