Parents of the HS Class of 2026

Wow, that’s heavy.
C26 got a good exam schedule with one AP a day. They only do 2 exams a day.
Oh, and choir submission was done and graded well. Phew.

Okay your kids that have three exams a day – esp in three AP classes – good grief! That’s brutal.

Our school only does one exam per day, and only that in the morning. Classes finished last week. Each exam is two hours, and my D26 gets 50% extended time, so her exams are three hours long. (So good thing she doesn’t have three of them back to back, lol!)

It is a just an unlucky schedule for both of my kids this year they both have their hardest 3 classes on the first day. They have 3 days of exams, but the last day only has two exams slots and both have only one that day due to lunch period!

That would be exhausting!

Congrats! That is fabulous news! I’ve always wanted to visit ND because I hear the libraries are awesomely beautiful – that’s my #1 goal on every college tour–the library and I think it was “goal” #2,657 for my kids  ). One of D26’s besties got in last night too. One of the kindest, most hardworking and smart kids we know. It’s her first choice too but her parents will make her hear back from all her schools before committing.

D26 doesn’t have her finals and midterms until the end of January.

My D26 will also wait to commit. Your D26’s bestie sounds like a perfect fit for ND, after spending time with other potential ND students this summer that was what truly sold my D26 on the school. She felt like she was surrounded by kind, smart, collaborative and outgoing students. It fit that vibe check for her

That was the way HS was for me - although I always felt like I should be studying over winter break!

Our high school used to have finals in mid-January but they changed it sometime while D19 was there precisely so students could have a proper winter break. They moved the entire school year two weeks forward.

Same here. She starts in September and ends in May. Graduates in June….on the same day as S22..150 miles apart…Going to be whirlwind grad weekend for us!

Not sure who came up with our school’s final exam schedule. Technically it’s just Wed and Thurs, but some classes split up the final and use Mon and Tues to administer part one.

I remember D22 was unlucky with her finals schedule one semester and had 3 AP’s in one day. She was totally stressed about it…which stressed me out. S26 has been really calm about his schedule this week…which I think stresses me out even more.

Ours aren’t until the end of January either, which is nice because then it’s not mixed in with all the holiday craziness.

We used to have finals at the end of January (back when we started after Labor Day), but everything has shifted now that we start in August. I am glad to be done before break. D’s finals were M, T, W this week — and then Th and F are pretty much wasted days. Teachers need the time to grade finals and enter grades by Friday, but are not going to start new units. So, it will be mostly fun activities and the winter music assembly Friday

Our exams are Tue-Fri, and the teachers have till 9 Jan to enter grades. Our counselor said that mid year grades will be automatically sent to whichever schools have been sent transcripts.

I never realized that some had finals in January!! I am trying to think if that would be better or worse that having it done prior to the holiday break.

D26 has her finals today and tomorrow. Her schedule is pretty nice this year. She has two classes off campus classes that finished Friday so those are over. And the remaining ones are not that stressful (except her Calc 2 test today  ).

@stk92 - I think you are also in Colorado? If so - are y’all being affected by the wind and planned power outages today? They were worried that D26s school’s power was going to be turned off this afternoon for a planned outage- but now they are not. Hopefully your area stays safe!!

D26 accepted and paid her deposit for RIT this last Monday.
So it is official. Feels strange but also nice. I think I (not D26 ) had some emotions on her declining her acceptances for all her other schools.
She got her last acceptance in on Monday night (CU Boulder engineering) right before finishing up her RIT stuff and Mines last Friday.

It was like saying goodbye to possibilities that we had been planning for a long time.
(it also has a bit of anti-climactic feeling- so much hoopla over these last few months- now suddenly done)

Wishing everyone’s students going through finals this week very good luck!!

D26’s school used to schedule exams by subject matter (English and Science on one day, Math and Social Studies on another), but the last couple of years they do them by period. Because there aren’t exams for every class, some students will have entire days where they don’t have to go to school and others where they can arrive late or leave early.

So nice to have it done!

Ours are by period. The first is always period zero, so most students go in late on day 1. Students are expected to be present for all of the classes - if the work for a final has been completed beforehand (such as classes where it is an assignment or project) they will have some presentation or discussion of those as part of the final grade.

It’s funny- that’s how it started when they moved to the new system- all classes were supposed to have some kind of exam or assignment. But somehow that changed- not sure why.
