Parents of the HS Class of 2026

Can attest to the club soccer scene in Syracuse! Huge! If you’re not on a club team you barely have a chance of making even the JV teams.

This is pretty much the situation that we’re in right now. Practice 5 days a week, + PT + school work. She’s too close to the finish line to quit now, but she is so burnt out. She loves gymnastics, but the mental toll is definitely getting to her.

Sounds like a super smart kid who knew herself and what she wanted out of the sport. That will serve her well in life when other big choices and options present themselves in terms of what one wants to do with their time and their life vs what they have the ability to do with their life and time.

So mine doesn’t have anything as exciting as Ivy League – but is happy to have Case Western ($35,500/year merit) and Marquette Nursing ($27,000/year merit) acceptances tonight. An unexpected deferral from TCU (her stats are higher than its averages, and she didn’t show much interest – so maybe that’s why?). So far, she has acceptances with scholarships from Case Western, Pitt, USF-CA, UTK, Marquette, and Creighton – all for Nursing. Lots of good choices, I think.

Congrats on Case and Marquette! Those are fantastic choices with some great merit. I’m sorry about TCU – fingers crossed for the regular round if that’s one she really wants.

Case Western is one that I looked and looked at the list of majors, hoping there would be one right for my kid – because I got the feeling the school would be a really good fit for her. Alas, they don’t offer a major that works. (She could have taken some classes at Cleveland Institute of Art, but she didn’t really want to pursue that.)

And a dear friend’s daughter just graduated from Marquette this past May.

Case, Marquette and Pitt are all urban-ish campuses, right, although not as urban as NYU? Is that the vibe she’s leaning toward?

Those are all great schools! Congrats!

Yes, definitely prefers urban campuses for several reasons – we live in a big city (so that’s what she is used to), she wants a diverse student body, and (from a practical perspective with nursing) that usually means nearby clinicals.

She is also a big sports fan – including college sports, especially women’s sports – so that is the one area where Case falls short. But in so many other ways, it is a good fit. Pitt still seems to check all the boxes. We have about 6 more decisions in January-March. Not sure TCU would have been a good fit, but she will keep her hat in the ring.

Interesting to see the gymnastics discussions, S26 was in kindergarten with a kid who was doing the 20hr/week routine including travel and PT. She got burnt out early freshman year, her mom told us it was going to be a choice to homeschool or attend our local public school and she chose to give up gymnastics. Was just burnt out. A friend of hers turned down one of the HYS schools because she wouldn’t get to start and instead went a much less prestigious school because she was guaranteed to start. Her hope was the Olympics and she didn’t think she would get there if she wasn’t starting.

I played volleyball in high school and remember no one coming to watch us, we were bad. if you were interested you could just show up and play we barely had any cuts. I was shocked to learn 11-12 was too “old” to start sports. Thankfully for D30 we found a local rowing club and she’s been enjoying it, turns out there are sports you can’t start until you are a bit older.

Yay!! Congratulations! She already has some really good choices.

D26 in at RPI! Woohoo! She’s very excited for this one. One of her top few.

She still has 6 apps she wants to do for regular, but really nice to have one of her favorites in before the holiday.
