Fantastic! Congratulations – I’m so happy for your kiddo, and happy for you, too, to finally have some peace of mind about this! So glad it worked out as you’d hoped. ![]()
Yay on both fronts! Although getting into a reach feels particularly sweet.
Congratulations!
Next thing you know, it will be mid-April, and we’ll be discussing how our kids won’t just PICK ONE already. ![]()
It took me a moment to get why this was funny. ![]()
DROVE ME NUTS! I think there were less than 5 substantive comments on that entire thread.
It works well to create a separate astrology thread. If you are bothered by astrology posts on the main thread, you can be the one to create the astrology thread, and the mods can help move posts over there.
For example see the yearly astrology threads for UC Berkeley. ![]()
Congratulations!
Awesome!l Yay!!
Congratulations!!!
Congratulations!!!
Let the planning begin!! Yahoo!!
Amazing! Congrats for both!
D26 got into one of her top choices yesterday and got honors college! She acts like it’s no big deal, but I can tell she’s excited.
Four for four so far. Noe we wait for March for hear from her RD schools.
Lots of exciting news here this week! I’m so happy for everyone!!! I’m just living vicariously through everyone else now since my daughter has chosen a school. I kind of enjoyed the excitement of her opening those portals. I know it’s stressful, but still I miss it already.
From what I’ve been reading elsewhere, it sounds like admissions as an OOS student to U of A might have gotten harder this year.
Didn’t they kind of hint at that with the change from auto admit to holistic admissions? I seem to recall something about how it would benefit less advantaged instate students, so I guess by corollary it would be OOS that would make room for those. Always nice to see a flagship trying to be more inclusive instate vs going for more OOS ($$) students.
Ive never done drugs but I’m guessing it’s probably a similar high when your student finds out theyve been admitted. D26 recorded her reaction and I must’ve watched it at least a dozen times.
Im hoping this post will not result in oversharing on personal extracurricular activities that now permeate NYC streets.
There was a YCBK podcast interview a couple (or maybe a few?) months ago of U of A’s honors college dean. In that interview, the dean mentioned that they are aware of various high schools that have a really rigorous curriculum and are aware that students from those high schools can have slightly lower GPAs compared to other high schools (because of no grade inflation). He said that they do take that into account and they do accept students into the honors college who don’t have perfect 4.0’s and perfect test scores.
In D26’s case, she applied test optional and I think her UW GPA is 3.59 (going off of memory, which can have spotty service sometimes, haha). She does attend a school w/a rigorous curriculum. Her school definitely doesn’t do grade inflation.
Regardless, we are just thrilled about this outcome. D26 really really likes the school, said, “It feels like home there.” D26 wants to stay in AZ post-graduation and for her major, there’s a lot of jobs here between the Phoenix and Tucson metro areas.
Going to take her out shopping this evening for some new clothes & some fancy boots to wear for her senior pics & graduation. Probably going to pay the enrollment deposit by the end of the weekend!
The astrology was real for D22 on UCB since she was able to see the admitted student day invitation a few days before the actual decision date. It also worked for NYU because she got in but I can’t confirm if astrology worked or just a random stuff.
Yes, portal astrology can work for many schools I think. It just doesn’t belong in the main admissions thread when there are dozens or hundreds of posts about it. Not everyone wants to participate in the astrology frenzy. ![]()
Portal astrology actually worked for D19 at NYU but it didn’t work for everyone, and no way would I feed the frenzy by talking about it on there!
