Thanks for your perspective on Shelaigh @Bestfriendsgirl My D is adopted, but I hadn’t thought of it from what might be her perspective. At least their daughter is a few years old now, so the pregnancy didn’t happen right away.
I didn’t like the Sr Ursula development either but it could give the Sr Julienne character (who I love) more opportunities for storylines as a working midwife and interacting with the local community.
Also, Sr Julienne is open minded, flexible, an excellent leader, and fairly progressive. While nice, it doesn’t make for great internal drama (inside the House) and the producers needed a more realistic proxy to show how most people in positions of authority reacted to the social changes that are coming.
I have a bio son and a adopted one, and I have to admit, I didn’t react all that positively at first to the Shelagh-being-pregnant storyline either (although that hug at the end with Patrick was pretty special!). That being said, I do know several women who got pregnant unexpectedly after adopting a child or going through lengthy infertility treatments. It does happen, but it’s also a common trope in television shows (the unexpected late-in-life pregnancy) – as is the evil new boss. I love Dame Harriet, but that character? Please, another sourpuss at Nonnatus House? It’s getting tedious.
Although I did shed my usual bucket of tears during the episode, so maybe none of these criticisms matter? My husband actually watched the entire episode with me, which he rarely does. He thought it was great, if stressful.
And I loved the first season Home Fires, but the dying-of-lung-cancer village physician (Tom Stoddard’s son, Ed) is a little too close to the fate of our Dear Dr. Turner, I fear. 
I was sorry to see that Chummy (Miranda Hart) wasn’t able to return after all for season 6. And now it looks like her husband in the series, Sgt Nokes (Ben Caplan ) will be departing after this season as well. He wants to pursue more edgier roles…I get that, especially after 6 years…
@LucieTheLakie - At least Sr. Evangelina was a likeable sourpuss. Sr. Ursula appears so far to be one of those who truly gets off on power. It will be interesting to see what happens.
@Bestfriendsgirl, good point! I loved Sr. Evangelina and was shocked at how her storyline ended! And I love Nurse Crane now as well, even though she was quite the battle ax as I recall when she first joined Nonnatus House.

Her protests to the contrary, Sr Monica Joan’s “gyrations” were wonderful.
I absolutely adore this show but it always leaves me feeling like I’ve been pulled backwards through a keyhole! It just keeps getting better as the years go on too.
Anyone watched tonight? Another excellent show.

Yes. I was just thinking how much more I liked this episode than the season premiere. Lin was such a beautiful baby.
She really was. But I’m worried about Shelagh. It would break my heart if she lost her baby and they seem to imply that she does in the previews for next week. As for Sr. Ursula, I couldn’t help but feel a bit sorry for her. I know how it is to fail at something and try so hard to make the next thing work just to get your self-esteem out of the toilet.
Finally caught up on the new season so finally caught up on all the comments here.
LOVE this show and this season has been great thus far! Definite tears from the past 2 episodes.
Sunday’s episode was great as usual. I totally love how this show both makes you laugh and cry with each episode.
I don’t know who does the closed captioning for this show, but they really should get someone British who can understand what’s being said. Tonight’s captions were especially awful! :-t

@patsmom, that was weird, wasn’t it??? I actually made sport of telling the DH every time they got one wrong. They kept translating “in” as “and.” I guess I’m finally getting used to those accents after all.
I now fantasize about getting a job writing the closed captioning for my favorite shows. I especially love the ones that tell you the name of the songs playing in the background and put the lyrics in italics!
