Sunday night’s episode was particularly well done. I am looking forward to the new character and certainly hoping that all will go well for Shaleigh and Dr. Turner.
I was curious about why it took so long to decide to do “stitch” on other pregnant patient. At first I thought it was because it new but they used it in Downton Abbey on Anna (?) didn’t they? That would have been earlier than this for sure.
I got the idea that the delay was simply the arrogant big-time doctor refusing to be pushed around or hurried along to do a procedure. Basically he was showing who was in charge.

I worked with a woman who discovered she had an incompetent cervix with her first pregnancy. She was very lucky, she’d gone in for a routine early 2nd trimester check, they did an internal (not sure why) and the condition was discovered. The stitch was done immediately and baby girl, now a young adult, was the happy result. When watching Call the Midwife, I thought there were going to be problems - the Dr was too arrogant, the mom was already into her 6th month and pushing the stitch further seemed an awful risk.
By the way - I’ve been on the road and hoped to watch PBS on-line. When I tried to bring up the video, PBS informed me that the show was not available in “in this region” (Asia). Luckily, DH will record the show for me, even though he leaves the room when it is on.
If you don’t want to know what is coming up on next season/upcoming shows, don’t peak at youtube. I was looking for missed episodes and stumbled across the plans…
Which some of the plans totally make sense IMHO.

I thought the closed captioning got even worse this week. The put “vickers” for a word that from context was clearly meant to to be “Vicar’s.” Same for when they put “eastern” for what was pretty clearly supposed to be “east end.”
Regarding close captioning, I’m guessing “Mother Shishu Emmanuel” might also be known as “Mother Jesu Emmanuel”?

I’m proud that I don’t need closed captioning, because I’ve been binge-watching Brit/Aussie shows for years. As in learning a new language, I learned some of the slang. My husband can hardly follow any of this. I don’t think closed captioning would help him, but I’d love him to join me.
It never occurred to me to use close captioning. Sometimes I miss something, but I don’t worry about it. I guess all those years in France and Germany got me used to not understanding every single word of a tv show!
We have a lot of background noise in my house so I always have Closed Caption on.
You don’t need to have any background noise to require the use of captions. This show provides its own. It’s one of the worst shows for muddling a lot of the dialogue under too much soundtrack music.
I use closed captioning for all kinds of US shows too. You have no idea how much dialogue (and lyrics) you’ve missed until you put them on.
My husband has hearing issues so we used the closed captioning when we are watching TV together. If it’s just me, though, I usually turn it off unless it’s a British or other foreign show. I have to have them with Law and Order: UK, with all the street slang, etc.
Actually I recently was fitted with hearing aids and my audiologist said closed captioning is really detrimental. Of course I knew that I needed assistance with my hearing for a long time but I never used closed captioning. She said it is much better for your brain and your comprehension to listen as closely as you can and you will get the gist, if not every word/syllable. It always worked for me… but I am happy that I did go forward and get tested and get properly fitted with the devices.
I don’t have any trouble hearing or understanding the dialogue on Call the Midwife but I sure could use captions for Shetland. I haven’t figured out how to turn them on though. One of these days I’ll Google it.
