Yep, I wondered too.
That one was almost too obvious coming. As soon as Mrs. Turner asked ‘Doctor’ about drugs they might have gotten information to help with severe emesis, I saw it coming.
I take it tonight was the last episode for this season? They did tie up some story lines so it would be appropriate for a long break.
What about Trixie? And the gay couple, with loss of memory? I don’t want to give away hints.
**SPOILER ALERT**
Well, I feel Trixie’s story had a climax tonight with her admitting she was an alcoholic, and will now just be part of a back story and not as prominent as it had been this season. And with the gay couple - I felt as if that had sort of been resolved, too; not too much speculation on what was going to happen - it was pretty much a done deal - the one nurse would be moving back to Wales with her parents and Patsy, I assumed would stay at Nonnatus House.
Yea the thalidomide story was obvious, but it is interesting that the series portrays the time as it was. Every episode I want to snatch those cigarettes out of peoples hands but that was true to time! Hope to see more of Chummy in future.
Slightly off topic, my H aunt had cancer that was treated in part with thalidomide. This was in last 10 years. At 80, she had to sign form confirming that she wasn’t pregnant.
I’ve only seen parts of the current season and so I was wondering what happened to Chummy. She showed up again in the last episode and I had no memory of Cynthia going off and returning as a nun.
Glad all worked out with Fred and the shopkeeper. I really enjoy this series, will have to put the books on my list.
Just finished up watching all 8 episodes since the weekend.
I puddled during quite a few.
I thought I would miss Jenny but I really didn’t. I really enjoyed all the story lines this season.
Cynthia went off end of last season to become a nun. I missed where Chummy went off to. It was in the first epi of this season.
It didn’t even occur to me about the morning sickness medication until the doctor said what ingredient was.
Now onto Wolf Hall.
I think Chummy was temporarily assigned to the home for unwed (?) mothers that was in an episode last year under very bad management. The lady in charge was kicked out and think the nuns and nurses stepped in to run it.
So loved seeing Chummy back. What a wonderful character.
I just watched the season finale. I really like Vanessa Redgrave’s narration, but it was sounding almost like the end of the show altogether by the end of the episode. It will be back next year, right? So glad Chummy has returned.
LOVE LOVE this show!
One of my favorites too. I was disappointed when Jessica Raine left the show, but she was fabulous in Wolf Hall, and I admire anyone who sacrifices a lead role for a new challenge, especially in a supporting role.
I’d encourage all the Call the Midwife fans to read the books. They are excellent!
She was in Wolf Hall? How could anyone tell - it was so dark. That being said, I loved it - but I had a lot of difficulty figuring out who was talking half the time.
Thanks bookreader - I’d been wondering about getting the books. I think I will.
Bar alto,
Thanks for the info about Vanessa Redgrave. I didn’t know she was the narrator.
Someone correct me if I’m wrong, but while we hear Vanessa Redgrave regularly, we’ve only seen her in the 2014 Christmas episode as elderly Jenny. There was something about that episode that helped me let go of Jenny as a regular character.
Anyone else watching the new season starting tonight?
I have book club but have it set to record!
@doschicos, Thanks for the reminder-taping now!
