PG, Like the Cheyenne Social Club?
Greeks have tiers . At Penn State everyone knows who the top tier are. That frat was a top tier . Top tier sororities are based on looks . D showed me pics. They all looked like Barbie dolls . They are not all like that . That particular frat is considered “elite”
It’s " elite" to look like a Barbie doll?
What a low bar.
Yes it is !!!
Or so they think . Not my criteria
What makes that frat “elite”?
Emeraldkity, as usual I have no idea what you are talking about.
And if you (generic you) aren’t impressed by something, then how “elite” is it anyway? Seems kind of silly to be impressed by someone or something you don’t value. It’s like saying the Kardashians are elite. Well, yeah, in some worlds, but not in any world that I care about.
Btw, it’s nice to be good looking. It’s not a sin.
@Twinmom2014: can you explain how the “tiers” are made at fraternities at Penn State?
What makes a fraternity be considered “elite”?
Is it purely on how many prospective brothers they turn down or on GPA/grades or majors or on how rich they are or difficult/strenuous the pledging period is or whether their parents are powerful or because of amenities offered (ie., cook, laundry/cleaning done for them, volleyball court, pool, passes to go skiing…?)
That I’m not sure about . I know the particular frat in question costs big bucks I will ask my D . They have a chef !
I’m not sure I understand.
Is looking like a plastic doll considered to be " good looking" in certain areas?
That’s what I meant by a low bar. I think others understood.
I’m not the one who said any social clubs are elite, although it is an old truism that the more hoops your social club/religion/employer has you jump through, the stronger your psychological ties to it will be.
Some may confuse that with having standards, or with being * elite*
@twinmom2014 “Top tier sororities are based on looks. D showed me pics.”
I don’t know who decides what makes a Sorority “Top Tier.” There seem to be many different definitions.
If it is drunken frat boys, then I assume it is probably based on best appearance, a high level of gullibility, and low alcohol tolerance. However, I doubt that those are not the top criteria that sororities use when handing out bids. I am sure that appearance is a factor, but so is personality, social intelligence, and at many schools grades matter because the sorority has to report its average gpa, and enthusiasm for participating in sorority activities.
It is also true that if you ask 10 students who the top tier sororities are, you will get many different answers. You can see that in cc posts about which sororities are top tier. They can’t agree.
If you ask 10 girls rushing to order the sororities by their interest level, you will get a lot of different answers. It depends on where you fit in best. Additionally, sororities that are popular at one school may not be so popular at another college.
It is more complicated than just looks.
If you are a member of a FB group the posts from that group show up in your newsfeed. You wouldn’t need to be actively checking the group to know the basic contents of the posts. Also, if one group was discovered and closed down and a 2.0 version was formed, certainly the uninterested parties would have declined to rejoin at that point.
Not necessarily - depends on your settings. I am a member of a group where I need to go to the page to see posts.
Penn State university Park has approximately 40,000 under grades. The greatest numbers i can find state that 19% of men are Greek. 16% women.
So lets say 18% students or 7200 kids identify as Greek.
Which means there are 32,800 kids at main campus not involved in Greek life. 82 %
Just thought I would put this in perspective .
Good point, sax. So what’s so “elite” if 80% of the kids don’t care about a system enough to participate in it? You non-Greeks sure seem to spend a heck of a lot more time thinking about Greek life than Greeks do about non-Greeks. Really, no one cares. Join or not and move on with your life, instead of getting caught up with stupid drama over who’s better looking or richer or more elite.
Questions about Greek life arise when the 20 percent generate a much higher percentage of reports of antisocial and/or criminal behavior.
What percentage of reports of antisocial and/or criminal behavior are generated by football players?
A lot, but “no worse than helmet sport athletes” is not a ringing endorsement in my book.
Oh goodness, even THIS thread is spinning off into a discussion of eliteness? And tiers? Only on CC… ~X( :-/
Really? So because some football players may not be very bright, it’s ok to generalize about all football players?
The hypocrisy and double standard of CC is amazing.
