In our case, it is the crows. My husband bought a fake crow off Amazon and hung it on a stick not too far from the chickadees’ nest. So far, the little birdies are not disturbed by it, but the crows disappeared!

I wanted a snack so I went to my backyard! I’ve been growing kale, lettuce, scallions, beets, tomatoes, cucumbers, herbs and strawberries. This is the most successful I’ve been -

I was in the Chatham/Harwich area last week and I’m in Dennis Port now. We’ve had great weather for the most part.

A few photos from our 200 mile coast-to-coast hike in England:

Those show the good weather. Being England there was also some truly epic rain (in 16 days hiking we had 3 days which were very wet, 5 days with showers and 8 days that were dry). All of our US waterproofs were totally inadequate and we had to buy more, our boots also disintegrated from being consistently wet and then dried.

The path:

The walk looks lovely! The really wet bit reminds me of this picture from our Hadrian’s Wall Path walk. (We had fabulous weather, may 1/2 hour of rain total during the day, but there were places were the water was literally bubbling out of a spring under the path!)

We had so many downed trees and forest debris in our wooded cabin enclave this past winter. Two trees fell across our driveway, but DH’s wonderful BF drove up from his cottage and chopped them up and moved them aside before we got here last week. Here’s just one of the piles:

I decided to take advantage of the detritus to mark a path from the back of our property down to the river. This is just a start; there are plenty more where those came from. I have my work cut out for me for a while:

Not the lake near my house. This is where DH is this week, but it’s a work on the cottage trip.

Gorgeous photo. Thank you. Are you willing to share the location ?

Had to look up “detritus” as I have never before seen this synonym for “debris”. Thank you for the education.

DH is going up to our camp tomorrow to work on it. I was supposed to go, too, but I’m too swamped with work. Next week we leave early Thursday morning for a wedding on Martha’s Vineyard, so I have to make up time. Summers in Maine are so tough. You try to cram a year’s worth of activities into a couple of months! I feel like we’re always disappointing people when we can’t make it to events.

I love Venice. When I was there in 1999 I bought my wife a Carlo Moretti vase that was made in 1970(our birth year) similar to the linked item below. I shipped it home secretly and gave it to her for Christmas.

First time visiting the Finger Lakes. Hitting a few towns on different lakes. Celebrating our 27th anniversary. Very pretty so far.
