Yosemite or Angel’s Landing? I’ve had the opportunity to do Angel’s Landing twice, but didn’t do it. If I recall correctly, only 1 guide and 1 of the 8 “guests” on a trip we did last year decided to do Angel’s Landing. I was kind of surprised. They didn’t go all the way to the top, but went much of the way.

No cathedrals or cobble stone streets in Portugal, but GD1 floating on her back for the first time and GD2 loving the beach.

Half Dome at Yosemite

Here’s the info on the cables at Half Dome:

I saw a Reddit discussion about the odds of getting on the cables without a reservation. People said (1) there often were no shows and (2) there were people who got to the foot of the cables and changed their minds and gave away their slots. There was another discussion about whether people preferred climbing with the cables up or down. Quite a culture!

“Since 1919, relatively few people have fallen and died on the cables”. Yikes, looks terrifying!

Our ranger told us that most people who have died are the ones who were in a hurry and decided to go around on the outside of the cables.

I do remember there were a daughter and father going up together, and the daughter fell and died :(.

El Capitan, or as we call it, El Cap. At more than half a mile (3,000′) high and one mile wide, El Capitan is the tallest exposed vertical face of granite on earth. I had watched Free Solo ahead of time, and they also showed it on the bus on the ride to the park. That climb was an astonishing accomplishment and awesome to contemplate in front of the rock face. We did see a few climbers in mid-day, although it was getting warmer and most of them climbed early in the day and rested in shadows as needed. There’s a fascinating historical culture of climbing at Yosemite - so interesting to learn about it.

People watching climbers (perhaps friends) and likely also waiting for the sunset glow.

It’s hard to see, but there’s a tiny looking waterfall just to the left of El Cap. That’s Ribbon Falls, the longest single drop waterfall in North America. But it dries up after early spring so we only saw a short section.

And yes, people also fall off of El Cap.

This $85M, 208ft super yacht named Scout is owned by James Berwind and his partner Kevin Clark. It makes its way to Provincetown every year or two. As we went by it on a pontoon boat that ferries people out to a private beach on Long Point my wife said something disparaging about people that own yachts like that. Then I looked up the yacht and found out they named it after their dog Scout. You can see a yellow statue of Scout on the bow. Suddenly my wife warmed up to Mr. Berwind and his big ol’ yacht. She said, “how can you not like a guy that names his yacht after his dog.”

Mariposa Grove. If you’ve seen one giant sequoia, you’ve seen them all.

Except maybe the ones with names!

Giant Grizzly, estimated at 3000 years old.

Saw this arrangement at my gym yesterday and had to look closely to see if real or not. It is! Loved thr bright colors so much had to take a photo to revisit it periodically (like after doom scrolling too much).

Glacier Point is next in my editing process. Fabulous views!

(Hopefully not boring you all - I really tested my new camera. This was an ideal place for the panoramic function.)

Yosemite Falls to Half Dome

Yosemite Falls and Yosemite Valley with the Merced River curving at the bottom.

Vernal and Nevada Falls. The Mist Trail up these falls is a very popular and challenging hike, and definitely above my fitness level.
