Tioga Road in the high country part 1. Stunning vistas from Olmsted Point, and Tenaya Lake is too beautiful. I re-learned a lot about glaciers! Tenaya Lake made me think of Lake Tahoe, but no development. Our Conservancy ranger guide had lots of family stories of climbing the domes in the area, and kayaking across the mile long lake.

Tenaya Lake

Tenaya Lake and many mountains of which I’ve forgotten the names, from Olmsted Point. I think the lightest one in the back is Clouds Rest.

Glacial erratics from near and far; the back of Half Dome in the distance.

Mountain Pride growing in granite (sounds like a high school team, not a flower)

Catching my breath at Olmsted Point (the altitude affected me more than in my younger years, with an accelerated heart beat). I include this to show my coordinated LL Bean hiking pants, Merrill hiking shoes, and stylish SockWell support socks. I think I go well with the granite.

Tuolumne Meadows. This 8600 foot high subalpine meadow is a great favorite of visitors for its wide open peaceful expanse. I myself was inspired to do one short round of Tai Chi.

Our Conservancy ranger’s wife is the lead ranger up here. He told us that every year, after Tioga Road is opened, she’s responsible for bringing up a couple of park vehicles. So she drives one up, hikes down 12 miles (in dark at the end), where her husband meets her in the Ahwahnee Hotel bar with a drink. Then she does it again in a couple of days. Then finally she drives up her own personal vehicle and stays.

I only made it halfway across the meadow so didn’t see Soda Springs.

But I did sit by the creek and contemplate the water gurgling over the stones.

Okay. Found ds’s pics.

He’s actually been to Yosemite twice. Once in the winter and once to climb Half Dome. So, hope sharing these are okay (since they aren’t mine).

The snow throne one was captioned, “Once a king or queen of Narnia, always a king or queen of Narnia.”

We played tourist in our own backyard! The mountain was definitely out today! Had lunch at the winery restaurant. Plenty of parking spaces when we arrived, but horse parking was kinda tight today!

A quick stop my bike ride. I love that they’re using glass cups for their tea.

Tunnel View, the most popular viewing spot in Yosemite showing El Capitan, Half Dome, and Bridal Veil Falls. I saw it three times, all during the afternoon, so didn’t get the dramatic lighting and weather photo ops and many of my pictures look the same. Still breathtaking. It’s seen when exiting the Wawona Tunnel, at .8 miles the longest highway tunnel in California. When it opened in 1933, the Wawona Tunnel was the longest automobile tunnel in the world.

(I already posted closeups of Half Dome from here, and will post Bridal Veil falls later.)

Since I didn’t bring my paints…
