Friendly fire ?

Vandenberg launches. Easily seen if the sky is clear and spectacular if the atmosphere is right.

This is a Madrona tree in our backyard. I find the peeling bark to be interesting and beautiful.

Back in the Stone Age when I started photography with a 35mm, I bought some guide books. In one, there was a blurry street scene. The description read, note how the photographer captured the illusion of motion. So just say that you wanted to capture the illusion of moonrise. “I meant to do that!”

The leaves are just beginning to change near Asheville, NC. Wish I had taken some pics in WV, as it was spectacular.

I finished some Paint by Number kits and decided to do something with the leftover tiny paint pots - and some of our dozens of sand dollars. Not very sophisticated because cheap paint and brushes, and limited to the leftover colors and my artistic ability, but still fun.

Seattle and the Coronado Bridge, if you can’t tell.

El Capitan and Yosemite Falls, again if you can’t tell .

My first scenic sand dollar attempt.

And my first attempts at all.

What I did this summer. Rocks, how’d you guess?

The bowl contains rocks I bought raw, or found on trips and in landscape rocks. I polished all myself.

I decided to dip into the lapidary arts and bought a lapidary trim saw (not inexpensive!) and a cheap “flat lap” which is basically a rotary sander with discs of different grits. The saw is to cut thin slices and crudely shape the rocks, the flat lap is to further smooth and shape. Then I polished the final products in my rock tumbler.

I’m only thinking of making pendants with the little silver bails you see in the photos for my family and friends. It would take learning to use a blowtorch and metal smith to get anything more refined.

Love your polished rocks. My 9 year old grandson would flip!

Thank you!

Sadly most little kids don’t have the patience for rock polishing since it takes a month or more usually. But if he is really into rocks, let me know, I can give him some tips. There are also tons of YouTube videos and fb pages for rock tumblers!

I was there too, at 8.2 mile mark in the brownstone on Lafayette Ave. with the very loud DJ! A tom of fun. Let me see if anyone from my group posted pix. (I didn’t take any, alas.)
