One highlight of our road trip was the Hearst Castle. Our last time there was almost 50 years ago and it hasn’t really changed! I mostly remembered the pools:
I particularly liked the Bertel Thorvaldsen marble relief carvings, or tondos as I learned they are called, in the Assembly Room:
Hercules and Hebe
Minerva and Prometheus
Jupiter and Nemesis
Hygieia and Aesculapius
Marilyn, I love your photos! Thank you so much.
This is what a $15M Formula 1 car looks like the millisecond after it hits the barrier in a 57G crash. The driver was uninjured.
Looks amazing!
The rest of the trip - we ran into rain on the 17 Mile Drive so photo ops were not optimal. We almost didn’t make it into Point Lobos; it was temporarily too full to allow more cars. But eventually we did get to enter. We’ve certainly seen a variety of California coastline!
You know that kid rock song all summer long about summer in northern Michigan. This is autumn! @ChoatieMom gas stations in Michigan! Except they missed alcohol and lottery tickets but those are a given!
Did you mean me???
What are “blood lights?”
Sorry, you were talking about your son coming for opening day on Saturday. It always cracks me up how the gas stations here are all in on the hunters. I thought maybe you would find it funny, I always do!
Blood lights are apparently lights to chase your deer after you shoot it. Shows the blood trail.
My kids who did not grow up here, are always amazed about what you can buy at the gas station here
I apologize if it was weird to tag you
No, not at all. I just wasn’t making the connection, but I grew up in Michigan, so I DO get it, though I’ve never heard of blood lights–something to add to the “What did you learn today?” thread. ![]()
The bugler playing Taps during my uncle’s funeral at Arlington National Cemetery this past weekend. It’s a screen grab from a video I took. I may have gotten a bit of dust in my eyes at this point…
A nice Thanksgiving day so far in Munich. We went to Nymphenburg Palace followed by a more local small xmas market followed by Olympic Park, where we took the shortcut up to the top of the giant hill - which was fine for H in hiking boots, for me I crawled on my hands and feet, which slid every step, lol. Followed by the market there and back to the main one in Marienplatz. Soon we will have dinner with my S’ childhood friend and his GF (she’s from here)
