Please test the Forum Index page

This is unrelated to the Forum Index change. Our hosting provider pushed a change to the production site that should have gone to the test site. We’re working with them to get it fixed. I apologize and I hope it will be fixed soon.

For the moment, you can go to http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/profile/notifications as a work around.

@CCadmin_Jon

I’m using an IPad.

I’m having an odd thing happen. We were told the Forum Index wasn’t live yet…but…when I log into this sit, and hit “go to forums” I’m sent to the new Forum Index Page.

Sometimes when I hit “home” I’m sent to the homepage with Highlights on the right. Sometimes I’m taken to the Forum Index.

And when I am sent to the Forum Index, it works just fine to get me to the Forum I want. If it’s not “live” why would that be!

What has happened to the advanced search feature? I used to be able to search for a term such as “Rice” that was not contained in the title of the thread. That feature seems to have gone away.

@Houston1021, the advanced search is still available once you do your initial search. The little triangle for the advanced search shows up in the search term box on the results page. Does that make sense?

Thanks! Hope this unplanned “improvement” will go away soon.

As I mentioned the other day, I agree with @Houston1021 that the search function has changed and not for the better. At least the word “forum” is no longer on 3 lines, but the advanced search is not findable. Please bring it back.

How do we start a new thread now?

@Houston1021, there’s an orange box on every page that says, “Ask your question now.” Click on it.

What if the thread is not a question but is something like Rice Regular Decision 2025

It’s functionally the same. We’re testing a different call-to-action to see if people will be more likely to start a new thread with this wording. But it might be counterproductive if people don’t understand that it doesn’t have to be strictly a question. Thanks for the feedback. We’ll have to think about this a bit more.

Yes, when I first saw it, I thought it meant asking a question of an administrator. I didn’t understand it at all until I tried clicking on it and realized what it was.

At first I thought it was an “Ask the experts” button.

@Sue22

It makes sense if you are not using an IPad. I still have the words Forums or Schools appearing vertically in a grey box to the left of the little magnifying glass that used to be where you clicked for the search function.

I have NO ability to use the search function. At. All. And it’s been reported and is a known problem.

“How do we start a new thread now?”

Oh, my goodness. I struggled with this.

@thumper1- Bummer. BTW, my “Does that make sense?” comment was not meant in a condescending way. I wasn’t sure I was explaining it well. I’ll check it out on my iPad.

I think previously, or maybe several updates ago, there was a tab to “start a new thread”. That seems to be fairly clear.

This is exactly why your designs are always flops…“A different call to action”

How about what everyone in the universe knows and what works everywhere else on internet message board. START DISCUSSION.

Stop trying to reinvent the wheel. You aren’t good at it at all.

Agree with Emily. Research, whether social or process improvements starts with “what is” and “what works now for a vast majority.” These bits should be kept and incorporated.

Sorry, but you’ve got safari, firefox, chrome plus Apple vs android, tablet, cell, desktop and laptop. Formats vary. Even how things look on screen. And only some users complaining.

Tough task. Good luck.

The search function is not working on my iPad. At all.

The more things change, the more they stay the same. How many times have we been told about exciting new changes and then the inevitable glitches and then the promises that things will be made functional again?

The new hire thinks they know better. No one ever thinks to consult the users first.
