My feedback is the the Forum Index can still be improved. When one clicks on “Forum Index” I suggest it be exactly that, an index to all the forums. The two I’m most interested in, Specialty Admissions/Athletic Recruits and also Learning Differences (I still don’t know what forum it is under!) both require another click or two. I would just list all the main forums, with their subforums under them. Don’t break out “top forums”.
The learning difference forum, in particular, has come to a complete standstill, now for several months. I know it was never hugely active, but it was active. I believe it is virtually impossible to find now – I know it exists, and I can’t even find it (it sin’t worth it for me to spend time clicking around trying to find it again). A new user would have no way of knowing that it is even there.
Thanks @MaineLonghorn ! Don’t you love dealing with those of us who don’t read thoroughly or clearly??? (Not). Apologies, the “draft” Forum Index is exactly what I was wanting. Never mind
I have found that when using my computer to access CC, I cannot find the ‘Specialty College Admissions Topics’, and further, the ‘African-American Students’ sub-forum.
I can find these on my phone, but not on the computer.
@waiting2exhale, on my phone, if I go to “Home/College Admissions and Search” I See “Specialty College Admissions Topics” with all the subfora.
It’s roundabout, though. I clicked on “College Admissions” and it took me to “Home/College Admissions and Search/College Admissions.” Then I clicked on “College Admissions and Search” in that string. Crazy. @CCadmin_Sorin, is there a way to get DIRECTLY to College Admissions and Search on a phone?
@waiting2exhale, you don’t see “College Admissions” in the “Highlights” block?
I click on “College Admissions” in the “Highlights” block. When that page comes up, at the top of the page, I see “Home / College Admissions and Search / College Admissions” (above the orange block that says, “GUEST STUDENT OF THE WEEK.” Those links are live, so when I click on “College Admissions and Search,” I see a list of fora, including “College Search and Selection” and “Specialty College Admissions Topics.”
It will soon be a moot point, because the Specialty College Admissions Topics forum is prominent in the new Forum Index that will be live soon. Did you click on the link in the first post of this thread? https://talk.categories.collegeconfidential.com/
@Waiting2exhale I found “College Admissions and Search” another way. Scroll down to “Discussion Topics” on computer or phone and it’s one of the categories. Click on that and you’ll see Specialty College Admissions Topics.
@MaineLonghorn : Your last instruction worked best, thanks.
On the whole I am immensely hampered at finding things now. I know it has been a while since changes were instituted, but I stopped trying and I thought I’d give it another shot during this period. I am also not great at doing much on my cellphone on the site, so using the computer works so much better for me.
I know @lookingforward always makes a point to speak to the different ways a user may connect to the site when considering how one thing is working for person A, but perhaps not for person B, and that has had me continuing to make an approach. Today I finally tired of my lack of success.
Did you check out the link to the new index page I posted? I think that should help a lot, right? It will go live pretty soon. But you can see a preview now.
@MaineLonghorn : Interestingly, that link opened up for me in my second attempt to follow your instructions on my computer, though not on my cellphone. In one moment, the pathway through ‘More Topics’ >‘College Admissions and Search Selection’>‘Specialty’ worked, and in the very next try, the link above worked.
I think you will find everything you want to find once the new forum index goes live.
Right now, this forum is having some other “issues” that are being addressed. You can read more about those in Community Forum and Issues…go to the Home late and scroll down.
Using this site on a phone is a difficult right now…and frankly always has been.
I can never find the Learning Differences forum either. I found some valuable advice a year or so ago, but the few times I’ve figured out where to find it, I’ve noticed there’s no new activity. Considering how many kids have learning issues, I’m sure it would get more activity if people actually knew it existed. I sort of stumbled upon it the first time.
Editing to add, I just looked for it now and after a while found it under “Pre-College Issues.” Huh, if only my son’s language processing delay would suddenly disappear when he leaves for college!
Whatever update was done to the forum recently wrecked my ability to view PMs and notifications on my iPhone with the latest iOS/Safari version running.
Also on a Android pixel 3a. It’s hard to type since I can’t see what I am doing at all since the header on top is covering what I can see so I am texting blind per se
Very annoying.
^^ On my Android, I can see there is a sliver of a notification box, but not the number in the box itself.
On my computer I get no notification indicator when I sign in unless I go to the bell image and click that, forcing a refreshing of the page. It has been like this since October, though.
The issue about being able to read notification and scroll through PMs has already been noted, and is getting addressed. Same with the search function.
Community and Forum Issues is where the threads addressing this are located…and I have said a lot…that’s not an easy area to find…and lots of folks never read there.
