Powerball!

The bad news: I lost.

The good news: i wasn’t struck by lightning, flattened by a catastrophic earthquake or tsunami, killed by a terrorist, or hit by any of the other catastrophic events that were statistically much more likely to occur last night.

On balance, it was a pretty positive outcome. I’m grateful for my good luck!

I’m not a person who plays the lottery, but I did find something odd about the last two drawings for the two biggest prizes in history. The numbers 19 and 34 were drawn both times (even a single repeat in two consecutive weeks isn’t likely), and the numbers 4 and 8 were drawn right after the week 16 and 32 were drawn (oh, and the number 2 was drawn before that; we now have an entire family of 2^x in the winning numbers for the huge jackpots… maybe 64 will be drawn next week?). I know that this is going too deep to analyze something as random as winning lottery numbers, but as a numbers person, these things just stick out.

But then of course the number 1 / 292mil also stands out. At least some people got to dream for a few days for $2. I’ve heard that the lottery is only worth it if the expected earnings (prob. x jackpot) is over the $2 ticket price, and even then, buying more than 2 or 3 tickets probably isn’t the brightest idea. :stuck_out_tongue:

Anyone still heart broken for not winning?

I got my enjoyment out of my tickets. Not heartbroken.

CF, I am hearbroken for my plan for the winning money didn’t fan out …lol

I got my enjoyment out of not wasting $2.

I have to figure out how I want to spend my massive $4 windfall… =))

I can’t believe the winners in Tenn have come forward already. How could they have gotten the advice they’d need in 24 hours?

Words fail me:

She spent all her $ expecting to win the big one and now set up a go fund me to get $$? Really?

Something about that seems a little fishy. Just a little too hater-baiting to be real.

@jym626 clearly that was put up just to see who would contribute, whats frightening is that folks actually gave her a ! donation.

Maybe I should start a college tuition page, as I will have two in college again.

Wonder what the most ridiculous go fund me request is for? The lottery one is pretty absurd. I agree, someone should pay your kids tuition, partyof5

Well, so much for that powerball “i;m broke” go fund me page. Its gone.

H said there were several $1 million winner. Always nice to hear when a group wins - they have some camaraderie with the follow up. Price not too big to go ape on spending streak and wasting the blessing.

They couldn’t have. They got very poor advice, supposedly from an attorney, but clearly not from someone who knows what a winner should do prior to going public. Very foolish.

My advice for the TN couple is to find a different attorney!!

They are indeed very foolish to be so public with their win. Hordes are going to descend on them.

^^I agree…saw the attorney on the Today Show with winners. He and the winners got on Today show because his daughter (also there) called Today after finding number online. He sounded mostly like a publicity hound, who wasn’t the most articulate. And they showed up with the actual ticket! Yep, just strolling around NY with the ticket in his front pocket. During the show, apparently some type of security appeared… oy.

I hope I am wrong, but this does not bode well.

I saw them on 20/20 tonight, and it got me thinkng that now that they are out the mystery surrounds the other two and the media can go on to seeking those winners out. I’m thinking maybe it’s like celebrities who sell their babies’ pics rather than deal with the paparazzi. Maybe it’ll be OK? Signed, Pollyanna
