Predicted Grades as an American Students Applying to UK

Hello all,

I am currently in the process of applying to UK Universities through UCAS. My recommender has submitted her reccomendation, however, she did not include predicted grades? Will this be an issue? The unis I am applying to mostly require three 5s for APs, however my ACT and/or SAT (1370 (740 in English) 31 (perfect scores in English and reading)) scores can be subbed as my third “5” because they are over the score requirement. These are the APs I have taken and will take:

  • 3 AP Seminar (I know how to write, I just have an issue with procrastination)

  • 4 AP United States History

  • 4 AP Comparative Government

  • 5 AP Environmental Science

  • 5 AP English Language and Composition

Currently Taking:

  • AP Literature (I am expecting a score of 5, 100%)

  • AP Research (literature-focused research project)

  • AP European History

  • AP Psychology (I am expecting a score of 5, 100%)

I am anticipating needing a 5 in AP Lit to get an offer, however, with the lack of predicted grades, I’m nervous this will be an issue. Any suggestions?

So the math ACT was like a 24?

Yeah…I am disproportionally better at English than math :frowning:

US applicants aren’t generally required to apply with predicted scores since they’re pretty worthless to UK admissions for several reasons.

A. Predicted AP isn’t a thing

B. American teachers don’t have a great history of accurate predictions

C. AP courses, unlike A-levels and IB, don’t have waystages of standardized assessment to help with final predictions.

So lack of predicted isn’t an issue. There is no expectation that one apply with all score requirements met; any offer will be conditional, in part, on your senior year scores.

The greater issue is, since you need to submit all scores, you have many scores which are not 5’s. For some unis it will be an issue. For others, not so much.

And hopefully your recommender knew how to write a UCAS rec, because it’s not like a Common App rec at all.
